But there are differences between 28.1db in operation of a Western AV 2TB to the 33.4db of a Barracuda 14 2TB, they are 5.3db of difference that is noticeable, the best disks are the AV ones that are made to work 24h to heat up little and make little noise, the downside is that they are more expensive and perform little... Really the disks that make the least noise are the 2.5" ones, I have an external one for storage since the rest have SSDs and you can't practically hear them.

Bm4n

Reply to New PC Mini-ITX on Sat, 15 Jun 2013 14:27:16 GMT

The fact is that the Green ones don't sound in rpm, but the head clicks from time to time, and they are clearly heard with the box closed... watch out for that. The chipset is independent, you will find mATX mITX with the most advanced chips like the Z77. Basically if you value space more than the expansion/connectivity capabilities of the board, buy an mITX.

PD. For silence (on this I have to disagree) SSD + HD type 24h/storage, no high performance disks, they get hotter, consume more and make more noise.
