I can't find CD icons or the Burner

Hola!! buena tardes!. haber si me pueden ayudar. En un ordenador que hace 2 meses que no utilizo, cuando abro MI PC, solo me aparecen los iconos de la disquetera, el disco local y el panel de control. La unidad DVD y la grabadora han desaparecido. Las conexiones están bien,y les llega corriente, porque puedo introducir cualquier dvd o cd, pero no los puedo abrir, porque los iconos no aparecen en ningún lugar, y como aún tiene windows 2000 no se reproducen automaticamente, alguien me puede explicar que puede haber pasado y como recuperar los iconos? gracias!!
