Puede alguien ayudarme si puedo conectar las dos tarjetas gráficas en slim.
las dos son Gigabyte Geforce 8500gt GDDR2 HDTV Pcie pero una es 512Mb y la otra de 256Mb.

En todo caso sera SLI, y si son de diferentes capacidades no se puede. tienen que ser de igual memoria. Igual podes probar pero no te aseguro nada.
Las pones cada una en cada PCIE del mother, despues conectas el Puente de SLI entre ellas y en windows el panel de control e Nvidia probablemente te diga que se puede activar SLI y lo haces desde el panel. -

si el chip grafico es de la misma serie si puedes
el SLI en algunas placas va por un puente que tienes que conectar a mano y en las mas modernas por biossaludos

Según mis noticias tienes toda la razón que es por bios, y que puede que lo único que pase es que trabajen como si fueran de 256MB, pero que el rendimiento aumenta entre un 25 o 30%.
