I'll tell you: I was checking if the fan (the turbine) of my graphics card was working, so I had the case open, and the computer turned on. When I went to check if it was working, I accidentally touched the top of the graphics card with my finger, which doesn't have a casing. Immediately the monitor's image froze and distorted, and when I restarted the computer, the monitor no longer detected a signal. I've fried the graphics card, the motherboard...?? or what happened??
P.D.: The fan does work though!!

With the computer turned off, completely remove the graphics card, run a brush over the PCI-e slot of the motherboard and reconnect it normally in case it did not make good contact. Then restart, if you do not have an image try it from another DVI, HDMI, VGA output and some adapter to check if any video output has been blown.

        Best regards

I have already tried what you told me, connecting the graphics card to the 2 ports on my motherboard, and the monitor to the 2 outputs on my graphics card and nothing at all. I just hope the motherboard is okay, but I suppose the card has died. Do you know what the warranty is in these cases??
PD: I must point out that the image was ruined the precise moment I touched it.

A 285 is like my 280 (externally) I doubt that touching the graphics card will fry it (damn) unless you have very wet fingers ? If the cooler is not the one that comes with it, I don't know, but if you don't introduce moisture, nothing should happen (note that it's not good to touch anything on the computer with your paws) disassemble everything and restart with minimal components (I doubt it's the graphics card)

I tried removing the RAM, and nothing, the temperature was perfect until I touched the graphics card, to be honest I'm pretty lost... what I find strange is what I mentioned earlier, that just by touching it the image distorted and when I restarted it didn't work anymore... maybe someone can shed some more light... thanks!!

It sounds like it was a static electricity discharge. If it's under warranty don't say anything just that it stopped working probably between.

                Good luck.

Well, since we're going to do it, I'll try it on another computer one of these days and we'll see what happens. In case anyone can help me, I bought it from pccomponentes less than 3 years ago and what I've told them is that I accidentally touched it. Do you see any happy ending??
                      Thanks and goodbye!!
p.d.: if it's the static, shouldn't the graphics card fan have been fried too??

Let me say it by speculating, it has potential because if you just touched the heatsink... it falls right into place. But it could have been a coincidence and be something else, it all depends on what crashed, after trying with another graphics card just in case it has nothing to do with it, remove the heatsink and look very carefully to see if the welds and components are okay. As a consolation, thank goodness it's not a new graphics card ?

The truth is that I have looked at it closely, I don't know what to do anymore. When I say look at the heatsink, I mean only to see if it moves well, not to disassemble it, although I had already done that a few days before. But everything is perfect until I touch it with my finger. Well, thanks to everyone!!

That is, about the contacts, I have already tried them in the 2 ports that my board has, and none of them work.

it surprises me a lot, I don't remember testing it on another board, so I can't recall much, but I think the casing is isolated from the card itself. I mean, I'm not sure about what Bm4n is telling you... it would be different if you touched the board in question, but that's not the case.

Of course, what I touched when it was running was the card, not the casing. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well, but I'm referring to the part of the graphics that is towards the top of the case. I can only pray that it's just the graphics and not have to buy a new card, processor, and motherboard!!
on top of that, I need the computer for my studies!! why god!!

I don't understand you, if you have the graphic card with the stock cooler, it's impossible to touch the integrated circuit, you have a plate of (I think) grooved aluminum right above it. You have a traffic jam more or less like this, right? You can't touch anything that's messed up (sorry for the expression) like this :nono:

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't know what a grooved aluminum plate is, but whatever it is you can see it here http://www.nvidia.es/object/product_geforce_gtx_285_es.html
where it says more views, the one that shows the back, that's what I touched, and immediately what happened happened. Forgive me if I'm repeating the same thing 20 times, but my knowledge about this is limited.
But anyway, what you're saying is that it's definitely the motherboard??

I lean towards a voltage surge in some microcomponent due to static electricity...

Pull the guarantee, I hope they don't take into account what you said about you touched it, because they can use this against you perfectly...
