Hello I'm new to the forum, I wanted to tell you about a problem with my PC to see if you can help me. The thing is that my PC turns off, but only when playing games, it doesn't matter which one xD, when it's going to turn off you can hear some strange noises like static electricity which can't be it; the specifications of my PC are:

      Power supply : 500w

      Operating system
      MS Windows 7 64-bit
      CPU
      Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50GHz 49 °C
      Yorkfield 45nm Technology
      RAM
      8,00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24)
      Motherboard
      ASRock P43DE3 (CPUSocket) 41 °C
      Graphics
      NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450
      Hard drives
      488GB Seagate ST3500418AS ATA Device (SATA) 30 °C

The temperatures don't usually go up much, they're usually like in the summary or a little higher but they don't exceed 60 degrees unless I play in the summer xD. Before I had blackouts apart from that it only happens once and then it restarts, I can do whatever I want and nothing will happen, also when playing it makes the same noise and some beeps from the speaker and the screen freezes as if it were the graphics. So I'm wondering if it's the power supply or the motherboard, does anyone know what could be the problem? xD

P.S.: I didn't know where to put the post U.U

Given the characteristics of your equipment, and that it turns off during games, I would say that the power supply is insufficient for you, ?, but wait for more opinions because in this forum there are people who are very knowledgeable about Hard, for me the best ?

        !AMD power! ;D

try to run a couple of stress tests first, one for the CPU and then one for the graphics
the graphics fan is clean, it spins well and has good temps, right?

Well, I already did those two tests when I started doing this xD, everything is clean and the temperatures are not very good, but they don't go over 40-60 degrees. I'm going to do the tests again to see how it goes xD thanks!

I suppose we're talking about full load temps, when you passed the tests it shut down or something?

From what I can see, the GPU handles the stress very well with Furmark reaching 60 degrees, the fan increases power and doesn't go beyond 61, 62 degrees, and when gaming, it usually doesn't even reach 60. Now I'll try with the CPU to see XD. If not, I suppose it's the power supply ^^
No, it didn't turn off hehe.

I suppose your source is one of those generic ones, right? I think it's a bit early to blame the source, but it's either the source or the graphic. If the source is generic, you might as well buy a decent one, and if you have a decent one, well...

The burn in runs one for each core of your CPU and you can monitor it with CPUZ, Aida, or similar.

The strange thing is that it doesn't reset itself when you pass the benchmarks to the graphics card, it's clear that one of the main suspects is the source, I wouldn't rule out some software or drivers either, although I suppose that if it were some driver or DirectX incompatibility it simply wouldn't start the game or it would close by itself, but I don't know if it would even turn off the PC.

Anyway, if you haven't already, try updating the drivers.

                        Best regards

If it sounds like static electricity it is very likely to be the source, since the stress tests of the graphics card do not make it jump…
It sounds to me like when the whole system is at full load including CPU, GPU and others, the power supply falls short somewhere and then it blows up, that's what comes to mind.
I would try with another power supply, if it can be of higher quality and power, to check if it is the fault and in that case replace it.

PD: Investing in a good power supply is to cure health.

I would first try with one borrowed just in case… just in case later on, for one reason or another, it's not a problem with the source and you have to return it and all the hassle.

That power supply is not bad in terms of 12V rail power, it just has fewer protective filters (it doesn't filter out possible micro-voltage spikes) and doesn't have the 80+ optimized consumption.
A few years ago all power supplies were like that..

                                            Best regards

In that regard, it has all the reason, it has more or less a 72 percent efficiency, and if it has fewer filters, well, it's not bad for the price I say, and let's think that maybe it's not the power supply (although it looks like it) ?
