I imagine that when stocks return to normal, when, no idea, a couple of months perhaps.

        This is what happens.

Editing: Thank goodness I ordered a Samsung F3R tera (Enterprise range) for 50 bucks on Amazon

The problem is that with all the fuss, I won't have a disk until next year because they were about to take them out of the oven and now they're going to come out drop by drop. I read that there's a pretty important engine manufacturer with most of the factories paralyzed :eoh:

USA: Seagate Technology soars 20% after receiving several positive ratings

Due to the problems of its rival, Western Digital

Add the quotes to your website
The hard drive manufacturer Seagate Technology soars more than 20% during the day after
          receiving several positive ratings.

In the opinion of Needham & Co., which has reiterated its strong buy recommendation on its shares, Seagate
can benefit from the fall in production of its rival Western Digital due to flooding in Thailand.

In addition, analysts at ThinkEquity have raised their recommendation to buy from hold.
“We think Seagate has the opportunity to gain a large market share and improve its
margins due to the damage to the production capacity of its competitor Western Digital”,
          they commented.

Currently, a terrible and very unfortunate situation is being experienced in the Asian country of Thailand,
it is one of the worst floods that this area has seen in the last 50 years due to
storms and torrential rains like few have ever seen, which have affected all sectors of the country.

This is the case of hard drive manufacturers Toshiba, Hitachi, Western Digital and also Seagate,
who have announced that although their plants remain functional, they will suffer from interruptions in the
supply chain that supplies the components necessary for the manufacturing process.

Due to this, the manufacturers have announced that they expect this to remain like this for the rest of the year,
due to the current weather conditions, which means that it could result in an increase in the selling prices of their products, both external and internal and multimedia drives, something that will undoubtedly affect the end public.

          regards

well, given what we've seen, it's clear that there's only one option left. don't buy hard drives until they release the new models and then let the distributors eat the old ones with potatoes (that is, if you don't need one urgently). i have one of 120 Gs very cheap, 300 euros :D:D:D:D:D

I find it incredible that with the amount of money WD must have in its coffers, they are unable to foresee a disaster like this or at least immediately take the necessary measures to continue production.

In any case, if this has only affected WD's factory, I don't understand the surge in prices from other manufacturers, unless it's pure speculation

              Regards

P.S.: Every time I see that a disaster of this type is capable of paralyzing the world production of a component X, I start to think about what will happen the day Google's servers or another giant's servers go down. What a scary thought.

It's a pretty big pain in the ass, since the wholesalers who had stock were saying they didn't have any and suddenly having 20,000 units tripled in price is insane XD.

That's what happens when you focus all your production in a single geographical point, that any natural disaster sends you to hell.

But it's not just that the WD or Seagate plant is flooded, you also have to take into account that other supplier companies are also immobilized, companies that possibly do not have the "economic potential" of these two giants and no matter how much WD or Seagate can continue production, if the small company that manufactures the metal casings cannot manufacture them WD will not be able to assemble them. The thing with stocks is a matter of the "turbulent markets" that are the fashionable culprits: chuckles Best regards.

Well, the thing with stocks is a matter of supply and demand. I mean, anyone in that situation would have done the same thing. If I have a valuable asset, and with much more demand than supply, I raise the price. If there is much less demand, I lower it, to encourage it. It's foolish not to do it.

Totally agree, it's the basis of capitalism that screws some people and benefits others, let's see how long it takes them to recover, because Samsung is going to have a field day XD.

I don't think Kynes is saying anything morally reprehensible. For example, if you were to sell your PC now, would you sell it for 50€? Probably not, because the market price values it at a much higher value.

When 10 years pass, would you sell it for 50€? Probably yes, because it will be within the appropriate price (or even above it). It's the same computer and depending on the circumstances you have sold it at very different prices. In your case, what has modified the price is the appearance of better PCs at the same price at which you initially bought yours, but it could have been any other cause. If 10 years pass and for some reason PCs stop being sold or innovation stops, or any reason makes the PCs of the world stop working, then surely you would no longer sell it for 50€.

I am not Jewish either, I am not a moneylender because I do not lend money at interest considered usury, I don't know if I will be rich, but I am not ashamed to work to be it, and I do not consider myself a thief at all, I offer a product at a price that some buy, and others do not, but no one is obliged to do so. I do not have to justify anything, and even less with a person I do not know, but since you have insulted me directly, for many smiley and cheap excuse phrase you put, I will tell you that you seem to me a hypocrite who believes he is better than others, and that you have no idea how you would react in that situation.

By the way, it seems to me a peasant way of thinking that to be rich you have to take advantage of others. No, you have to offer something that others want, and that is better and/or at a better price than what others offer, whether you are a footballer, a doctor or a businessman, and for that you do not have to exploit others. And, it's not for nothing, considering being Jewish an insult is racist. You should be ashamed.

P.D without the intention of offending anyone.?
