Hello family, I hadn't logged into the forum in a thousand years, you know how it goes, time passes and you turn into a pureta with OEM equipment ?

The thing is, years ago I disassembled my entire RL and sold it, I left my old P4 1800@2520Mhz with a volcano7 cooler in the office as a server and switched to laptops for work...

The other day, while disassembling this PC for cleaning, one of the plastic support brackets for the motherboard broke and now the cooler can't do its job because it can't hold it and doesn't have enough contact with the micro...

Since I can't find that single plastic bracket anywhere, I've thought about going back to Liquid Cooling, as it would eliminate that bracket and I could anchor it directly to the motherboard.

Now, I'm at a loss... I've seen some commercial LCs like the Corsair H100 that would be fine to get by, but I'd rather have all of you who are up to date recommend what would be best ?

I welcome recommendations of all kinds, basic, homemade, commercial, expensive, cheap LCs... Whatever it takes to get the server up and running again as soon as possible, I would also appreciate info on where to acquire materials now :risitas:

      Thanks in advance

An RL is not meant to be left unattended, considering the use you give to the PC, I would mount a passive heatsink and run it.

By the way, if any anchor breaks, the plastic clamps are very effective and do their job well:

I've been with an RL for 7 years with no maintenance... it doesn't have much more history than changing the liquid when you remember... At least that's how I see it ?

About the flanges, there is no anchorage point, it is broken and it is not viable.

Thanks for trying to help ?

Putting a liquid cooling system on this PC seems like a waste of money to me. I would even say that in forums like hard2mano someone could donate a motherboard to you. I recently donated components of an AMD XP 2800 I think I remember, motherboard, micro memory, heatsink... which was quite better equipment than yours and I didn't get a single Euro.

I think it would be cheaper for you to look for a second-hand or donated component than to put a liquid cooling system on that equipment. If you want a liquid cooling system, you can get one starting at around 60€, but you should check the compatibility with such an old socket. Liquid Cooling sale offer in Online Store good prices cheap with discounts

You can also look for that support in forums like hard2mano. Surely someone has a motherboard that they no longer use from that socket and brand.

I didn't think I'd read something like this in this forum… :muerto: ;D

Seriously... I had already seen that link before posting this thread, but I'm not very convinced by the purchase at PcComponentes, is there not a more specialized portal/store?

I'll look at the portal you mentioned to see if I'm lucky and there's a donor to get the plastic bracket and continue OEM with air, instead of RL as it has been working for so many years with such good results

              Thanks for the input ?

Very well, if the heatsink did its job, you shouldn't change it for a liquid one, especially for the use you give to the PC-

If it was mainly for the issue of longevity, currently and for years with air the micro gave the temperature figures that come out in the signature, but the sound when having it on 24 hours is a bit annoying ?

With the RL everything was quieter and the temperature values were lower… the issue of mounting the liquid cooling came mainly because I couldn't find the support and I remembered that with the RL it was directly attached to the plate and it was more comfortable, also to reduce noise more than for performance, because I wasn't going to push it like in the old days ;D

I'll look into mounting a quieter fan on the Thermaltake heatsink, to see if at those turns we reduce the noise, I'll take a look to see which models are moving now.

                    Regards and thanks

I'll look into mounting a quieter fan on the Thermaltake Disipador, to see if at those turns we reduce the noise, I'll take a look to see what models are moving now.

                      Regards and thanks

In a PC I have a quad core with a passive heatsink with no fans in the whole case and the temperatures don't skyrocket, with that I tell you everything. As I said, for the use you are going to give it a good air cooling will work better for you than a liquid one.

I can't help but come across a post where an old forum member reappears, so I drop by to say hello ?

As I was reading, I was thinking about looking for one at my job and sending it to you, so you could get out of trouble, but since you have already managed to get one, I invite you to check out the Alternate website and look at the Scythe heatsinks, as there are many compatible with Socket 478 and it's also a good brand. Being a Northwood, I don't think it will be hot, as I have had both a 2.4 and another at 3Ghz and with a regular heatsink they were very cool, although with OC I don't know how they will turn out.

That said, Alternate is better for in-store pickup, or at least it used to be.

                        Best regards!
