Hello, I'm new to the forum and pretty clueless about computers.

I have an AMD Atlhlon ™ 64x2 Dual, Core processor 6000+ at 3.11 GHz, 4 memory cards of 1GB, OS W XP SP3 at 32 bit from 2002.
I only use this computer for gaming, I thought it needed more graphics and I put an NVIDIA 210 of 1GB in place of the Geforce I used.

The result is a real mess. The games are not faster and the pc turns off when I play for a while. I added some RAM modules until I reached 4 (4 GB) and it only recognizes 2.75GB.
I tried cleaning the processor fan (which had a lot of dirt), I ran an antivirus just in case and it still gives the same result.

You see, I'm very fond of gaming but the pc is completely disappointing me. Because I have little idea, I bought the parts without informing myself too much and since it's a hybrid pc, it's possible that they are not compatible with each other or even with the operating system.

I would be willing to change several parts of the pc and start from scratch, although this includes motherboard, processor, graphics card etc. but I need someone to guide me and tell me an appropriate configuration to be able to play last generation games and that lasts me a few years without touching it.

      Thank you very much!

        hello and welcome

tell us how much you can spend and we will guide you a little

if you bought the graphics card recently return it and the memory as well, because those parts are not suitable for a new computer (that graphics card you bought is a dud)

without spending too much something like this:

        ASRock P67 Pro3 SE B3 - approx 71 euros
        Intel Core i3-2105 3.1Ghz Box Socket 1155 - approx 121 euros
        G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 4GB 2x2GB CL9 - approx 28 euros
        Sapphire Radeon HD 6770 1GB GDDR5 - approx 80 euros

then you have to take into account the power supply you have and the case
        EG: NOX Urano II 530W - approx 40 euros - AeroCool VS-3 Gaming - approx 30 euros

        prices from: http://www.pccomponentes.com/

        regards

Tell us all your components. Important to know the source, the model. And tell us what games you want to play and at what resolution.

It would also be good if you said how much you want to spend, apart from knowing what power supply you use. But to give you an idea of what you currently have.

The AMD Athlon 64 x2 is still a good micro. Here what you lack is a much more acceptable graphics card than the GT210. A more acceptable card for this computer is the HD6770, although perhaps this micro will create something of a bottleneck, but you will be able to take better advantage of this graphics card in a future expansion (change of card, micro and memory).

Sapphire Radeon HD 6770 1GB GDDR5 Refurbished 11189-99-90R Graphics Card

It is very well priced, and together with a Nox Urano II 530 W, you will be able to enjoy much more and without having to spend a lot of money.

            Regards.

I agree with the colleagues, put your budget.
If in the end you only update the graphics, look for an HD 5850 even if it's second-hand, I have it next to my Athlon 64 x2 5600+ at 2.9Ghz and it runs like a dream, it's a good combination, but without a doubt tell us what power supply you have, because if it falls short, it's a bad deal.

                Hello again.

Thank you very much for your advice, first of all.
The power supply also came with the graphics card and the ram, I think it's 500W, although if it's necessary I'll open the PC and check it.

I like the economic options you're giving me when you refer to changing only the graphics card but I have doubts about the RAM, since it only recognizes 2.75 of 4GB. Doesn't this have to do with the OS I use? (W XP SP3 to 32 bit). I'm not sure if a high-end card would work well with the ram it recognizes.

If I had to change several components I would be willing to spend around 300 euros or so to make it decent once and for all.

As for the resolution, I would like to take advantage of the 21-inch widescreen monitor.
I mean, I invested some money recently and I'm not taking advantage of it at all :wall:

The brand is not necessary, what is necessary to know is the real power it delivers. Look at the +12V line and observe the amperage it marks (Example: 23A) and thus we will know the real power of that line, which is the most used and important for the graph.

It is rare that in XP it does not recognize all the RAM… are they different modules? That may be the answer...

If you are willing to spend 300€ I would go for the configuration that ferelxyx put at the beginning, it is the best for that price and by touching here and there you can adjust the 300.

Look at the resolutions that screen supports and tell us.

                  Greetings.

since it only recognizes 2.75 of 4GB won't this have something to do with the OS I use? (W XP SP3 to 32 bit).

In order for it to recognize all the RAM you have to have 64 bit Windows.

If the source is paco's brand  you can't put in a graphics card that's too powerful. Anyway with that micro you won't make use of a very powerful graphics card. For about 100€ you have some very cool options for that computer.

Although 32-bit Windows XP does not recognize all of the RAM, it should recognize at least 3.2 GB of RAM. My third computer from the firm, the Core 2 Duo, uses 32-bit Windows XP on a disk partition and recognizes 3.49 GB of RAM out of the 4 GB that are installed.

You should take a look at the BIOS and also check that the modules are the same. And remember that depending on the low-end graphics cards, those that have Turbo Caché in the case of NVidia or Hyper Memory in the case of ATI; and especially the graphics cards integrated into the motherboard, take RAM from the System.

I just opened the pc because I don't have programs that tell you the brand of hardware.

I realized that they are two different RAM modules instead of 4 cards as I said at the beginning:facepalm:, although of the same brand; one Kingston KVR 800D2N6/2G and the other Kingston KVR 800D2N5/2G, in theory 2 GB each but I repeat they are different.
Could this be the reason why I only see 2.79 of ram?

The power supply is a TALIUS TECH4-U P4-500S, I don't understand if it's good or not so I have copied what it says on the sticker:
                        115V–-8A 230V-----4A at a frequency of 50-60Hz.
What do you think of the power supply, is it PACO brand ;D?

Regarding the power supply... I think you got slightly confused, you should look for the line where it says "12V" exclusively, and referring to it, the amperage it has, to calculate the total power it delivers.
Although a priori the brand of the power supply is absolutely unknown to me.

Tradex Informatica distributes the new Talius brand

and I think that's not it, because the p4-500-s makes me think it's older than me (which is saying something)

Well, it seems to me that this power supply unit will also need to be replaced, I'm sure the computer will shut down more often because of this.

By the way, the maximum resolution of this screen is 1920 x 1080 pixels.

To summarize what I understand so far:

The motherboard and CPU are not bad, but the RAM modules are not compatible with each other and, in addition, W XP 32 bit will not fully utilize them even if they are installed in dual channel mode.
The graphics card is a disaster, I'm sure the one I removed was better, which, by the way, I fried during the change.
The power supply is more of the same, it does not provide enough power.

Now, after reading your comments carefully, I have come up with two options:

1- Buy a graphics card from the ones you recommended + a decent power supply + a RAM module that is the same as one of the ones I have.

2- Buy practically the entire tower except for the hard drive and floppy drive. Much more expensive option.

Do you have any other suggestions?

well no, I think they are the two logical options you have available
anyway, I don't know who said: don't give bread to the hungry, teach them to fish (bad joke, the urda understood to steal ;D;D ) well to the topic here I passed you a link (of the many you can find ) to calculate APPROXIMATELY the power supply needed for each computer.
                                    http://support.asus.com/PowerSupply.aspx?SLanguage=es-es
think that the power supply (unless it turns out to be bad) if it is quality, it is only changed for two reasons: you upgrade the computer and it gets "short" or you upgrade the computer and you get "short" of connectors
what do I want to tell you with this? well that if the little program marks 200W if you buy a PSU of 250W and in one or two years you upgrade the PC to something more decent ….. you will probably be short of W with this I don't mean that you buy one of 1000W, I'll explain, right?
once the topic is clarified I would calculate what power supply you need and if you are short then you know that the computer hangs due to lack of it, the ram I suppose you will have DDR2 I personally would buy something second hand because new ones are worth more than DDR3 :wall: but almost the best thing is:
you buy the power supply (if necessary)
save and buy something like what ferelxyx recommends
                                    greetings

That power supply doesn't deliver even 200W real in 12V... maximum precariousness.
I recommend the option of upgrading the entire system, you'll be better off, but if you don't have much money, then patch it up like everyone else. New power supply, decent for the next system (with 600W I think you'll be more than enough, unless in the future you want to build a very beastly system) and if necessary a decent graphics card, which you can find second-hand, to continue saving money.
                                      Best regards

Decided then, I will do the following in view of the landscape:

I will buy a 600W Power Supply, a decent Graphics Card (like the one Panella or Ferelxyx said) and a RAM module twin of the ones I have. In this way I think I will get more out of the RAM to scratch the 4GB and the games will not be stuck, in addition to gaining in resources. These pieces can also be taken advantage of in view of the future.

Do you have any brand in mind for the power supply?

                                          Corsair, OCZ, Tacens…
This would be a good option, and cheap:
