What is the best operating system to learn about servers?
-
Hello, I am a beginner and I wanted to know which operating system I should use if I want to learn about servers, I am trying to set up various types of servers but first I would like to try with an ftp.
Please give me your opinion on which systems I should start with and what basic concepts I should consider. -
Mande? You can set up an FTP server on any OS, if you don't have much idea I would go for Windows.

maybe a windows server? i think it would be the easiest option to start if you have no idea about linux

For learning? With Windows XP you have more than enough.

Since the post is in the Linux section, I would recommend Debian, but for tinkering Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

First you would have to know what you want to learn: server operating systems? File server applications, applications or something else?
Second, buy yourself a good book. Something about operating systems in general if what you are looking for is general knowledge, or a specific one about what you are looking for when you have it clear (Windows, Linux, Unix, etc.).
Finally, to practice, you already install the system that interests you. For many things, as someone has told you around here, Windows XP is useful (ftp, telnet, iis, etc.), to master the OS almost any linux, to administer Microsoft networks then Windows Server 2008, etc.
