I think that's low vRAM for that raw performance. I would wait for a GTX 660 if you can save up with some waiting, or I would go for a 7850.

While it's true that the offer is tempting, for BF3 it doesn't seem like the best investment to me. If you get a GPU to look for many details with BF3 it's not very pleasant for modest wallets, not to mention that the micro also makes itself felt, especially with multiGPU ?

        @Obione:

But is a 2500K at 4.4Ghz with 8Gb of RAM VERY little for a cross of 5850 or have I missed classes? ?
I think that if you push it, with 4Gb more of RAM just in case it's too tight in general, still... but I don't see that it would be a bad investment at first glance, correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: I would be more concerned about that power supply with a possible cross, since a pair of 5850 (one of them Xtreme) can raise the consumption to just over 650W in total at full load...

I know people who have consumptions above 4GB but I think they will have Aero (which usually tends to lose performance) and a lot of preloaded junk, I think 2x4GB is more than enough to play and even that it won't be noticed much compared to 2x2GB with a little optimization. The vRAM however is noticeable for Ultra.

Your micro is luxurious, I said that because building a computer for BF3 Ultra is a disaster xD

Editing: With a 460/6850 you can move High relaxed but if you feel like putting AA and Ultra you have to build a monster or 2 6950 2GB for example.

I'll tell you about my experience with the purchase of that card:

I buy it, it arrives in a new, sealed box, although it's noticeable that the graphics card is a bit worn, as is natural in a repaired product. I plug it in without problems and it works perfectly for 3 days.

On the fourth day, I start the computer, the fan goes to 100% and the motherboard beeps because it can't find the VGA. I do several tests but the graphics card keeps doing the same thing, and the rest of the components work perfectly.

I process the RMA, and I send the graphics card back at no cost to me (a nice touch to appreciate) and they send me another one. By then I've already looked around on the big network, and I see that the first HD5850 from Sapphire based on the reference model, usually die in this way <:(

Days later, they send me another box equally sealed, but inside comes an HD5850 Xtreme, which has been working without problems for several weeks :happygirl

If you want to take the risk, it's your money.

            Cheers!

Leaving aside the convenience of refurbished or not, regarding putting a "normal" and the Xtreme.

They are compatible, but always making sure that both are synchronized to identical frequencies.
When I mounted my 2nd HD 5770, even having them at the same frequencies, I had unexpected reboots, I thought it was a power supply issue. But they were solved by changing the order of the cards :wall:

Putting the "normal" in the PCI-e x16 and the Asus CuCore which is more "Xtreme" in the PCI-ex8 until today 0 reboots. ;D

              Best regards

The reference and the Xtreme have the same frequencies :sisi:. The difference is that the Xtreme uses a PCB designed by Sapphire that makes it shorter, and it is better cooled.

                Salu2!

                  Well, it's already ordered!!

But... I understand that with an I5 2500K at 4.4GHZ with 8GB of 1600 ram it will cause a bottleneck?? Seriously :ugly:?? Let's see what arrives tomorrow, because I can see that you can get a vaporX, an Xtreme, or a reference one... :frio:

There are 2 things I don't understand, if 1 5850 with 1GB of ram is more than enough, in theory 2 5850 with the 2GB of ram they have should also be more than enough, right? Besides, I play at 1920 x 1080 with a single monitor.

On the other hand, you recommend that I wait for the GTX 660, but another 5850 only costs me 80€ more, and the GTX 660 is said to be around 250€, and besides, if I'm not mistaken, it will have between 1.5 - 2GB of vRAM, the same as the 5850 crossfire.

The only advantage I see with the 660 is that it will consume less and generate less heat, but it would cost me more, more than double!!

                    Best regards!

That's what I was wondering, whether the equipment falls short or if I'm hallucinating :ugly: but no way. With that micro and that RAM you can go miles.
I like the plan, in fact it's what I'm planning to do when I get the chance and renew the first PC (soon) I intend to get another 5850 and set up a curious cross, but I'm only worried about the power supply, a Corsair TX650 that I already own…

The vRAM is not added, although if I remember correctly I have seen that the monitoring* of vRAM in some game sometimes adds RAM with the latest GTX but who knows, it is just a number that the game gives you.

*I do not refer to the monitoring of use in programs other than the game, I would trust this data more.

Wow, and how can that be??? Does 1GB of a graphics card really get wasted when doing crossfire?

What a crappy optimization then when doing crossfire :wall:

EDIT: Well, it turns out that both graphics cards have the same amount of vRAM and while one processes one frame the other processes the other frame…:ugly:

So, in that case, I will not need to do any overclocking at all, since the only thing that will limit me will be the vRAM, since it will have more than enough raw power.

A man who 2x 5850 do not add up to 2Gb, does not mean that their performance is not increased a lot (which is not double either). Micro-Stuttering :ugly:
Anyway, it's something that happens mainly in cross and SLI's of more powerful graphics cards, especially in multi-gpu graphics according to results I've seen. I think it's not something especially worrying in a cross of 5850, I haven't read that it happens in those cases.

                                  Regards

                                            5850 reference oc (@775/1100):

                                            5850 Crossfire default (725/1000):

                                            5850 Crossfire oc(775/1100):

                                            Ya os colgare mas resultados!!

                                            Un saludo!
