Thermal paste from 7 years ago

If it doesn't go above 30º-40º, forget about the thermal paste. It's a very acceptable temperature.

Thanks, anyway, I guess the PC would shut down if it overheats, right?
-
Yes, don't worry, a PC from 2005 should turn off when it reaches a high temperature. Moreover, a micro can withstand 70-80º without any problems, you have a lot of margin.
-
hello anyway even though the temps are good, it wouldn't hurt to take the time to clean the fans and heatsinks.

regardsI cleaned them with compressed air, but having read cases where processors have melted due to the paste, I've been quite worried…

as kynes says, your motherboard most likely has over-temperature protection, make sure it's enabled in the bios and at most compare the temps with a program like core temp (it's free) if you want to sleep more peacefully you can change the paste to something like mx5 good value for money.

regardsI'll see if I buy it tomorrow, something that anyone can recommend that isn't too bad...
I went into the BIOS and set the CPU temperature limit to 70º, so I guess it will shut down or at least warn me somehow... And I have SpeedFan ready for when it finishes formatting.
Thanks a lot for everyone's help -
The MX-5 is a Mazda :troll:
The MX-4 is a good paste but it's 8 bucks and a half on the APP for example. If you change the heatsink it will come with a more modest paste but the difference is very slight.
With those temperatures I wouldn't change anything.

a slip of the tongue ;D
man it's 8 bucks but well invested (although in this case....)
you can look for something cheaper but I don't think it's worth it and about changing the heatsink

Principles of computer science:
-If something works well, don't touch it.
-If it doesn't work, turn it off and on.- etc…
I have never been one to change the paste, unless I have to disassemble the heatsink for something and already take advantage of it.
After 7 years, if it works well, little more can degrade. The paste will be a fossilized solid block. :troll:...or maybe I have never put any paste.
On one occasion I saw a PC similar in age to yours, without paste and with the heatsink tied to the socket with a twisted wire (like Bimbo bread)
It had a problem, but it wasn't about temperatures. The best thermal contact is metal against metal. The paste only fills the gaps (if any). -

Come on guys, this is a photo of overclocking. Here the motto should be "If something works well, touch it to make it work better" :fuckyea:
Anyway in this case I agree with the colleagues. If it works well, there is no need to touch it.
-
Yes, the only thing left is for it to be so dry that when you remove the heatsink, part of the micro comes out.

+1
The temperatures you have are good, there is no need to touch anything. Now if you want, as you have been told, there are great pastes that are not very expensive, but I wouldn't touch anything.

It wouldn't be the first time that what Kernel1.0 says happens… The pastes from those dates dry out and solidify in such a way that many times I have come to think that they are made of silicone or something similar
