My PC has the following characteristics:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.50 GHZ
Ram: 4gb DDR2
Disk: 640 GB 7200 RPM SATA
Card: nvidia Geforce 9300 GE 256 MB A 1633 MB
System: Windows vista premium SP2 32 Bits

The thing is that I want to change the graphics card because I already have some problems with the new games that are coming out, for example STAR WARS OLD REPUBLIC, the next launch GUILD WARS 2 etc.

I went to a technical service store and they tell me that for it to work well I will also have to change the power supply and I don't know if it's true or if only the card can be changed but they are trying to get more money out of me.

Which graphics card would you recommend for the games that are coming out to go well but that is not the highest range, that is, a good card with which you can play well the new games that are coming out even if it's not with graphics at maximum but that is affordable in price??

And also ask you if it's true that I will also have to change the power supply??

It would be good if you opened the tower and pointed out the characteristics of your source, anyway you can always ask for the graphic and try it with your current source, if it pulls you out of the games or restarts the PC clear sign that you should change it... You do not give any budget, so at first I would recommend an AMD HD5770 (approx. 116€) or an Nvidia GTX550Ti (approx. 130€), both move you the Battlefield 3 to 1680x1050 Medium with AA with relative ease (around 45 FPS).

hello. krampak recommends two good options, the issue with the power supply is because if it is very bad or low power it is almost preferable to change it. Therefore, it is better to open the tower and see what you have.

P.D in case you have to change the power supply something like this would not be bad Thermaltake Smart Series 530W - 80+ power supply always look for active PFC and a minimum efficiency of 80. There are more things to look at but with that for now you get an idea.

Franziscaner, do not confuse the consumption of the entire system with that of the graphics card, it is something totally different.

A 550ti consumes just under 120w at full capacity and the 5770 is around 108w. A 550ti does not consume almost 300w, not even a GTX580 does.

Even so, the power supply that it needs for a graphics card of that type should be a minimum of 500w with active PFC and good efficiency so that it does not waste watts, as electricity consumption is not something to be taken lightly. Another very important factor is the case where you are going to put the graphics card, as some Packard Bell are very small with Flex-ATX cases that leave almost no ventilation for a dual-slot graphics card and this could affect the lifespan of the card over time.

If you could put a photo of the case open and of the power supply it would be much better to know how the situation would be when making the change.

Una 550ti consume algo menos de 120w a tope y la 5770 está sobre los 108w. Una 550ti no consume casi 300w ni de coña, vamos, que ni siquiera lo hace una GTX580.

Aún así, la fuente que necesita para una gráfica de ese tipo debe ser de mínimo 500w con PFC activo y de buena eficiencia para que no tire vatios a la basura, que no está el consumo eléctrico para muchas alegrías. Otro factor muy importante es la caja donde vaya a poner la gráfica, pues algunos Packard Bell son muy pequeños con cajas Flex-ATX que no dejan casi ventilación para una gráfica de doble slot y eso podría afectar a la vida útil de la tarjeta con el tiempo.

Si pudieras poner una foto de la caja abierta y de la fuente estaría mucho mejor para saber cómo estaría la situación a la hora de hacer el cambio.

If I remember correctly, when choosing a power supply due to the graphics card, an important factor is the amps that the 12v line provides, right?
I changed mine a while ago, but I remember paying attention to that detail when buying the power supply, precisely because I asked here (where else ).

Regarding the size of the tower, it seems like nonsense, but Hardan I give you all the reasons, I still remember the look on my face when I installed the 4850, it was HUGE!!!! I don't remember what card I had before, but the 4850 was approximately twice as big, it leaves me a couple of centimeters away from one of my hard drives.
So, if it's a small case, it's a very important detail to keep in mind.

Hello everyone, first of all I want to thank you for your advice on the graphics and the font, in the end what I put on my PC is:

Asus GTX 550 ti 1 gb card

And the truth is that everything is going great for me at the moment, the only problem I am having and maybe you can help me since you understand about this graphics card is that it seems that this graphics card has an internal firewall and I can't use the p2p programs like before, I have the router ports open like before, the Windows firewalls deactivated etc, everything the same as I had it before installing the card when the p2p worked well for me, so the problem is with this damn firewall from Nvidia that I don't know how to remove it, I have searched the internet and indeed it seems that there is an internal firewall from Nvidia that may be the one giving me the problem but I have read the solutions they give and none of them work for me:

1º- They say to go to control panel/add programs and there uninstall the active armor from Nvidia or the Nvidia access management, but I don't have anything like that in the panel, from Nvidia in the panel I only have 4 options to uninstall or change but none of the firewall, the options I have are:

Nvidia 3D vision controller
Nvidia 3D vision controller
Nvidia audio controller
Nvidia graphics controller

As you can see I don't have any option of any firewall to uninstall or change.
The other option they give is to uninstall the card drivers and when reinstalling them disable the firewall option but I have tried it and when reinstalling them the installer doesn't give me any option to disable any box, it runs until the end and nothing more.

And I don't know what else I can do to disable this firewall, I can't find any more solutions.

Esse the firewall has nothing to do with the graphics card, but with the chipset of the motherboard which I think is Nvidia.

You have to look in the network card software, which should be Nforce network controller and try to disable Nvidia armor there. In the graphics driver you won't find anything because even though they are from Nvidia, they are independent drivers.

What you need to uninstall is the NVIDIA Network Access Manager, I'm not sure if uninstalling Nvidia Drivers asks you later which specific component you want to uninstall... try that.
