      Hello everyone!
I'll tell you a little about my history with computers and why I decided to overclock it, and what I changed to achieve it.

This is the equipment I had, bought about 3 years ago:

      • Intel C2Q 8200
      • OEM cooler
      • Asrock 4core 1600 GLAN
      • 2x2Gb Kingston DDRII800
      • Ati Saphire X1600Pro 256Mb
      • Semitorre Innobo

The problem I had was that with that motherboard, the ratio between the BUS and the DRAM was 1:1 and my processor comes from the factory at 7 x 333Mhz, so the RAM was working for me at DDRII667, wasting its capacity. I tried to do some overclocking but the board was very limited, and the best I could achieve was a Bus of 342Mhz, with an FSB of 1368Mhz, and the RAM at 684Mhz, from there, the computer wouldn't start. In addition, with that configuration the temperatures skyrocketed, in idle they stayed just below 70ºC and at the slightest load they went through the roof.
So, I considered doing a hardware upgrade, which after 3 years wouldn't hurt for a computer renovation.
The first thing I did was buy a new case. Now I have a Cooler Master Elite 371, with 3 fans of 12cms. Then I bought a better cooler, a Cooler Master Hyper 212+, which lowered the temperatures by more than 20ºC and at full load it stays well below 65ºC. And my last acquisition was a second-hand motherboard, an Asus P5KR. Very good choice, I'm very happy with it.

This is the equipment I have now:

      • Intel C2Q 8200
      • Cooler Master Hyper 212+ cooler
      • ASUS P5KR
      • 2x2Gb Kingston DDRII800
      • Ati Saphire X1600Pro 256Mb
      • Cooler Master Elite 371 + 3 fans 12cms

With everything assembled and working, I got to work configuring the BIOS to give it a little overclock. I watched several YouTube videos and read articles on how to get the parameters generally set up correctly.
And then getting into the topic of frequencies, voltages, etc., what I have done is leave everything on auto, better not to modify anything out of ignorance, I set the multiplier to 7, the memory to DDRII800 and I kept increasing the bus frequency.
My goal was to get an FSB of 1600Mhz, which is supposed to be the maximum that Asus indicates for this board (Official puts 1333Mhz and 16000Mhz in overclock) and I have achieved it, without modifying voltages, memory latencies or anything strange, everything on auto.

        Out of the box:
        7 x 333Mhz (2.33Ghz)
        FSB 1333 Mhz
        DDRII 800Mhz

        Overclock:
        7 x 400Mhz (2.8Ghz)
        FSB 1600 Mhz
        DDRII 960Mhz

With this configuration, I have run the Memtest, and the Intel Burn Test, 20 passes, and it has passed everything correctly.

The maximum temperature reached has been 65ºC, taking into account that I have margin up to 71.4ºC that Intel marks, I think it is not bad at all.

Surely it can be squeezed more, both the micro, the board, or even the memory, but for now, I don't think I will need more. Goodbye!

Here I leave you some screenshots of CPU-Z and Aida64.

This first one is of the computer as it was from the factory, old case, OEM cooler, and the Asrock motherboard.

This one is with the new heatsink, the maximum I could achieve with the Asrock motherboard, from here, the computer wouldn't start.

And this last one is as it is now, with new case, heatsink and motherboard, and the Bus raised to 400Mhz. The temperatures are after 20 passes with the intel burn test, with which it reached a maximum of 65ºC.

I look forward to your opinions and advice. Thanks in advance! Regards! AGUR
