I've been looking at my laptop because I have a dilemma... whether to put an SSD in it or get a new laptop and put an SSD in that... the one I have now takes 2'10" to boot Windows 7 64 bits... and 1'10" to boot Ubuntu 12.04 and I really need to work in Windows because I have software that's only for win and I have a license and everything so.... I'll go back to Windows 7...

Do you think it will improve a lot these boot times??? to half or more?? the times I put is once the OS is running and ready to run something and doesn't get fried...

The laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-NR10M and has an Intel Core 2 DUo T5250 micro with 2gb DDR2 at 667.

The truth is that it is for using it with an editor like zend studio …eclipse or netbeans, nothing gives games or beastly calculations... x that I think the mikro would hold up, no?

The micro is a T5250... dual core but nothing special...

Yesterday I started to disassemble the laptop and I think it has SATA… not sataII... but if I remember wrong that gives a maximum of 150mbps??? so is it worth it or save a little more and go for a laptop???

And how can I know what performance it will give me? The maximum I know is 150mbp/s… but the minimum or estimated? Let's see if I'm going to go from the current 22mb/s to 50mb's.. if that's double.... but that's why I'm not spending the 100€ and saving for a new laptop.

The speed will give you the maximum that your board supports. But that's not what you should look at. You have to look at the access time and the reliability of the hard drive / ssd model. Currently the best option is a Crucial M4, and depending on your budget you can buy one with a higher or lower capacity. It's silly to buy an Ocz or similar, there's not much difference in price and they fail much more.

on a current computer, changing a mechanical disk for an ssd is more noticeable than changing any other component. about the speed… I would rather say that a crucial m4 in your computer would be close to those 150mbps

Speaking of performance... previously it took me 2min and 10sec to start win7 64 bits Professional, but now it does it in 25 seconds exactly... and just started I can start programs without having to wait... so I am not enchanted but very enchanted!!!!
