Replace my old HD4870
-
Hello! I'm thinking about changing my old and tired HD4870 512MB, but I don't want to spend more than 120 euros... Is there any option for this price more or less that is better than my current graphics card?
Thank you!

For that price a 7770, what resolution do you play at and what processor do you have?

Hello, I want to play at 1680x1050, I have an E8400@3Ghz

Well, there you have it, an 7770 with a giga of gddr 5, also you might be interested in reading Help for choosing a graphics card - HardLimit

I'm sorry but in your case I would wait to save a bit more. I went from an ATi 4770 to a 5850 Xtreme and I noticed about double the power. The 4770 even with Overclock was somewhat less powerful than a 4870. It was similar to a 4850. The 5850 Xtreme is generally superior to a 7770.
By this I mean that I went from one less powerful than yours to one more powerful than the one you want to buy and I noticed a difference. I play at 1280*1024 and it's a low resolution but I play what I want with high levels. BF3 included in multiplayer on maps of 64 people. But you will notice less the jump as indicated by the graph that I attach at the end so think it over.
You also have a Dual Core micro… many games require more cores to run faster.
In your case I would wait to save a bit more, until I get to a 7850 + a micro with 4 cores. It may seem like throwing money away, but a micro like mine second-hand is worth about 60€ and even today it defends itself very well if you do Overclock. I have my micro at 3.2 but if you raise it to 3.6 and put a decent graphics card it still defends itself very well. That and I hope you have at least 4 Gigas of memory. If you have less than 4 Gigas... :troll:
If not it would be to consider changing the platform and selling your components. It will seem crazy... you came to ask about a graphics card and look what I tell you... but I don't want to see you change graphics card without knowing that the change is not going to be radical for various reasons.
Here you have a comparison of the graphics cards. As you can see the 7770 performs better than your graphics card but it's not that it beats it. ;D
In the comparison they put a 4870 of 1 Giga. It will perform better than your 512 graphics card at high resolutions only.
This graphics card is already more decent than the 7770 and at a very interesting price, but it's Refurbished, but with its warranty and all the fuss: Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 Refurbished 11180-99-90R Graphics Card
Here comparing the 7770 vs 6850. In general it is more powerful, except in some games. I prefer the 6850 to the 7770. The thing is that the 6850 is older, but when it came out it was a mid-range graphics card that performed well, and the 7770 is a bit of a refrito… and it doesn't reach mid-range. For me it's in the range of graphics cards that are a want and can't. They are decent without standing out. It would be like a high range (within the low range) :wall:
Sorry for the blabber. :ugly:
I saved up and bought myself a 7850 and a second-hand Quad Core that reaches 3.2-3.4 like a Q6600 for example; and you would have equipment for a good season. Graphics card + second-hand micro for about 250€ and keep in mind that for your micro you can get about 30-35€ and for the graphics card 4870… about 30€. And I don't say more :mudo: So the investment would be less than 200€:llorar:

Ok, I will take it into account, thanks to both of you for answering.

If it helps as a reference, a friend of mine has an E8400 that I installed in his day with an HD6870. Previously he had an HD4850 that died in the line of duty, and he noticed quite a difference with that HD6870 and that's not very demanding when playing.
Anyway, if you find a good deal on an HD7850, don't think too much about it, then you look for a Quad core or change the platform, but you will already be enjoying the graphics.
My brother-in-law, my workmate, had an 8800GT and recently crashed the poor thing and probably my mate will put an HD7850 in it, and the micro is somewhat inferior to yours, but for the price it wasn't worth looking at worse things.Regards!!

I come from an HD 5850 and although today they may be discontinued, I can tell you that it is a card that performs very well; games like Max Payne 3, Crysis 2, etc... run smoothly and at high settings.
If you are an eBay user, take a look around because you might find one second-hand at a very good price.
