Problem with HD 7870
-
Well welcome to the forum

I don't know what the problem you have exactly, it could be something in the software that doesn't let you touch the graphics much, but anyway.Anyway, I just wanted to welcome you to the forum, tell you that you have a pretty cool PC and I hope you enjoy it, and that you contribute all your knowledge to the forum

Greetings!!

Thanks for the welcome ;D;D
I keep investigating my problem, but nothing; I can't find a solution… :ffu::ffu::ffu:
I've also seen people say that the OC limit of this 7800 series is a lottery, that sometimes it goes up 300 mhz and sometimes it barely goes up at all (which is my case)…
So anyway, I'm going to squeeze it as much as I can and if I find out something later, I'll look into it. -
Hello again.
Well, regarding my problem, it seems that I have made progress. Yesterday I dedicated myself to doing a CMOS on the bios and leaving the factory parameters without OC on the whole PC.
I updated the 7870 to the new catalyst 12.10 and it seems that now there is no failure with the OC of the card. I have it at 1100/1200 and so far it has not given problems playing the new MOH. I hope to put in a bit more juice to see how far it goes, but for now it has not failed.
I will also have to see if with the OC of the processor/memory it goes well and I can have everything with a bit more extra power.Edit: Nothing, it still doesn't work. The damn graphics card keeps getting stuck if the speed is increased. What a piece of crap, I don't know if this one I got or the 7870 series in general is bad

The OC thing is sometimes a lottery... it's not mathematical and you can get "the big one", but the bad kind. For example, you can buy a CPU that everyone puts at 4Ghz or 5Ghz and you have the bad luck of having the one that doesn't go beyond Stock:troll:
If the graphics card works normally at stock, there's nothing strange. Maybe updating the bios of the HD7850, you might get lucky.
Greetings!!

In the end I'm going to request an RMA; because I reported the problem to Pccomponentes, where I bought it; and they replied that I should go through the RMA process, which is very strange that applying such a ridiculous OC with the same ATI software, the card would hang like that.
So that's what I'm going to do, send it to see if they change it for another one or what. It's also true that they told me that this card doesn't accept a very high OC, both this one and another one like this.
Anyway, they told me that in my case they don't charge anything for sending it and taking a look at it, so I'll try a new strategy to see if I can solve the problem...Edit: You said to update the bios... but what if I put the same one from the 7870?? I'll try it, I'll reflash the bios again, maybe the one I have isn't set up well from the factory and doesn't allow me to touch anything... who knows.

I'll try it, I'll flash the bios again, maybe the one I have isn't set up right from the factory and doesn't allow me to touch anything... who knows.
If you can do an RMA, don't hesitate... you might get one that overclocks much higher. Although you might be without a graphics card for 15 days or a month

Best regards!!

I'm going to try one last thing, I've managed to get a rom from the 7870, a version earlier than mine. I'm going to flash it right now and see if this rom has unlocked OC and voltage control, which from what I've read is very common in bios versions 015.017.

I suppose you have already processed the RMA, but if not, you can read this news on BeHardware.com, about a failure in some of the first cards of this model, due to a batch of defective voltage regulators.
Regards!

Well, in the end the problem was solved, new graphics card through RMA and this one works without any problems, no freezes, no restarts, nothing; it even has much cooler temperatures. -
Well, great that the problem was resolved…. if there's nothing like an RMA :ugly:
Best regards!!
