apparently in some reviews they comment that it has a pretty annoying coil whine (electrical noise), maybe it's because it only has 4 phases per GPU? no idea

My old 6990 also had a pretty annoying electrical noise :S By the way, the 7990 hasn't been on the market for a while already? At least that elite version with a briefcase that was running on H2M at 700€ xD

              @ferelxyx:

AMD has presented today the AMD Radeon™ HD 7990, the fastest graphics card in the world ….

What is that? lol, we're fucked today. Putting up propaganda flyers is all the rage.

PD: Not even on a proAMD site like TPU! they say this:

              http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7990/25.html

Where using their standard battery of tests it falls below the GTX 690 in all resolutions. Only by doing a biased and totally partial review of their tests, "eliminating" the results that are not to their liking, does one obtain some pyrrhic advantage.

It's a shame they didn't do the same with the test batteries when using gaming evolved games with dubious features and with nvidia graphics!! ah, but that "would be wrong", unlike what was done with the AMD 7990. :troll:

And I don't even bring up data about frametimes, where the 7990 does it, well…. worthy of a monument (at least you see "a light at the end of the tunnel" with the alpha-beta of 13.5).

To be the fastest graphics card in the world, it has to be seen from all angles, without a doubt, without eliminating test results from a test, and in a clear and decisive way. And this is not met in any review.

              PPD: About various electronic squeals:

1.- The GTX 690 doesn't have it. So it's possible to avoid it.

2.- The HD7990 doesn't need hundreds of fps for it to sound, in fact even with Vsync you can hear it (the big difference with other cards).

3.- It's more due to the number of phases, to the enormous work that these have to perform, the more a graphics card consumes, and with low voltages, the more amperage it has to deliver and all the implied stuff with electromagnetic fields in the middle. To avoid this you have to use first-class electronics, "cemented" coils or study the electronics and its insulation as best as possible. It's clear that here that wasn't done with care.

It's not at all normal for a graphics card to "squeal" even with Vsync activated.

However, to play Doom3 it must be great. When you least expect it, the graphics card takes care of giving you a scare with the squeal of hell. MORTAL!!

Well, aside from that, I think it's a silly graphics card, just like its predecessors or the 690/Titan seemed silly to me. It moves relatively well at 5k resolutions, but the price compared to a CF of 7970 skyrockets and I don't see any advantage.

Well, aside from the obvious, I think it's a silly graphics card, just like its predecessors or the 690/Titan, it moves relatively well at 5k resolutions but the price compared to a CF of 7970 skyrockets and I don't see the advantage.

If I tell you that it "pisses me off and stresses me out" that my GTX 670, with all the paraphernalia it says it has, has "coil whine" starting from about 300 fps (in my case, you only "hear" something from the card starting from very high fps rates, of that level), you'll understand that a card that squeals like a "pig" even with Vsync seems like a joke to me.

It's that I would go crazy, I would climb the walls, and more so paying the almost 1000$/€ that the card is going to cost. At that level I demand perfection, and coil noise is absolutely not acceptable in a product of that level.

That and the issue of drivers with MS from AMD, which seems like a never-ending story. I mean, if this card had come out before or at the same time as the Titan, I would give it a pass, but it took a year to... achieve what, a Pyrrhic victory at best? At the cost of much higher consumption, worse acoustic solutions, and zero OC?

That doesn't seem commendable to me, that's why I make fun of the "fastest card in the world" thing. I wouldn't spend that kind of money, but if I did, it would be on a GTX 690 or maybe even the crazy Titan (I'm not a fan of multigpu solutions at all).

Not even me, electrical noises are what annoy me the most, I have the board regulating the fan by voltage so I don't hear the pwm noise... And that's a barely audible noise, but I hear it like a dog hears an ultrasonic whistle.

The problem is that spending 1000€ you won't have perfection in anything, not even with the Titan (although it gets closer)... They haven't done anything new with that 7990 and it will have the problems of the rest, the only thing that has surprised me is the supposed fast communication between the GPUs, but I fear that it doesn't make a noticeable improvement either. I am a big defender of price/quality and not cost for cost's sake and this type of hardware doesn't meet the expectations I would have.

PD. I think these noises come from having the power supply of so many watts crammed into so little space (or perhaps in so few €s), no matter how much you reduce it, you can already see what it takes to have a decent one in a motherboard and it's to power less, in these exaggerated cases where a single card is going to consume 300W, this is what happens...

                        regards

The thing is that AMD has promised to fix this problem by July, and with those "very beta" 13.5 betas it seems that they are aiming to be able to (once and for all) fix these problems in a much more tangible way than before. Even so, even with the preliminary results, the stability of frames and interframe latencies is not "the same" as with a GTX 690, but still, compared to how this issue works with other drivers, it's something to be happy about. The little difference that would remain, if this could be applied in every situation, would be a difference that is not perceptible.

It has to be an advantage that NVIDIA has been putting monitoring hardware in their GPUs for a while for the issue of synchronization between GPUs, but the main thing must be in the software, that is, the driver.

I would rather get, if I have to choose, a 7970 that I am sure won't be noisy just like that, and set up a crossfire to use with those drivers. If in the end it's the same, but cheaper (and comfortable/practical, if one card breaks, you still have one to keep going, if the 7990 breaks, you'll have to play minesweeper for a while).

To be honest, I don't know why they're releasing it now and at that price, even though it has a very good game bundle, I prefer two 7970s that cost around 700€ and also give good games.

Even some second-hand ones will be cheaper, if they had released it 6 months ago and forced competition against the 690 it would have been better, what seems is that the agreements are being imposed again, they already agree on prices for memories, HDD and graphics and don't want to compete, what they do is divide up the market, I hope they start imposing good fines for monopoly on all these companies again, as already happened years ago and everything went down in price and we saw a time of competition, it was good for consumers, because lately I see it quite black for buying hardware.

Intel doesn't agree because it's already a monopoly, it does what it feels like, now other solutions like Smartphone and Tablet are being imposed and if they don't wake up I think they will be in danger in the future.

                          regards

                            Hello.

I'm taking advantage of my first post to say hello... that's it... hello...

I'm trying to find out if the drivers for the 7990 are and will be valid for the Devil 13 from Powercolor. I just got it, and I'm already getting nervous about the possibility of having the most expensive brick of 2013.

Of course I knew about the problems with MS, because I've already had some duals from the reds (3870X2, 4870X2 and 5970), but that so many years later they continue in the same... quite a mess.

                            Best regards!

Hello, I had one (which I also sold for "where you know") and I couldn't be happier with it…

do you have MS problems?, I didn't appreciate them... -I suppose it will depend on the equipment, etc, etc-

In any case, the architecture is exactly the same as the 7990 (that is, an internal CF of 7970 with the PLX chip) but much better... because of the circuitry and "power" that this card has.

So, the answer is clear: OF COURSE, THE DRIVERS WILL SERVE YOU!!!.

do you already have it?, how are your first impressions?

                              Regards.

                                @BlackMesa:

                                Buenas.

                                Saludos.

                                  Hello.

The graphics card arrived today, but I haven't even opened the box. As soon as I plug it in, I'll do some quick tests as a first contact (I'll try with a title at 1600p).

Therefore, for the moment it is a bit early to comment on anything... my fears are born from the comments I have been reading these days. We'll see what happens...

I think the internal PLX chip that synchronizes both cores will have something to do with it...

When you try it out, do you do any "review" or something...

                                      Buenas.

;). A ver como se comporta esa famosa Devil.............!!

                                      Un Saludo...

                                          Hello, comrades.

Well yes, I've been very busy this past year, traveling a lot for work.

Moreover, my wife doesn't have as much free time anymore, and tinkering has had to take a back seat. But anyway, the goat always pulls back to the mountain...

When I have the equipment in working order, I'll run some tests on the gadget to see how it behaves, waiting for the umpteenth miraculous drivers from AMD.

                                          Best regards!!!

                                            Hello, friends.

Well, yes, I've been very busy this past year, traveling a lot for work.

Also, my wife doesn't have as much patience for it anymore, and tinkering has had to take a back seat. But anyway, the goat always pulls back to the mountain...

When I get the equipment in working order, I'll run some tests on the thing to see how it behaves, waiting for AMD's umpteenth miraculous drivers.

                                            Best regards!!!

                                            Welcome here.

Don't you think a 7970 GHz CF would be better?

It's that the 7990 will be more expensive than a CF and besides, now the 7970s are customized, I think it's better to go separate, the price difference is significant.

                                            regards
