      @_IsaaC_:

I know it's a topic that's been touched, retouched, and overdone. I have the i7 920 C0 with stock cooler. As usual in summer... it gets up to 80º, I suppose that due to usage and the thermal paste deteriorating, it's already approaching 90º at full load. And I'm fed up, to play I have to lower the frequency with the corresponding loss of performance. I know many will say buy this or that and leave 80€.
As the market is, and what the i7 is, I understand that it's not worth spending that money on a cooler for this processor, but to extend its life... and my vices... do you think the cooler master 212 evo could help me with that? I refer to it because they're selling it like new for 26€. Although initially I looked at the thermaltake frio (50€), I don't see much difference in degrees to justify double the price.
What do you think? Has anyone had or has one? And would you recommend it? Or that and the stock one... would I hardly notice a difference?
      Thanks

Change it without hesitation, put Artic MX-4 thermal paste on it, (or something similar that's half-decent), and you'll notice a change overnight.

Any cooler will outperform the stock one, at least 10º. I would dare to predict a 20 degree improvement...
If you change it, come back and tell us about the improvement, but I would change it without thinking.

      Regards...

Yes, because it makes me black, when it reaches 80º I notice how the cpu slows down and I can barely play. By putting it on medium saving power which actually does a downgrade. A delay, let's say.
I'll try to go to PCgreen tomorrow.
Do you know if I have to remove the board to place the blackplate? almost certainly not?
Mx4 better than artic silver 5???? Although I imagine that when I buy it will come with its paste, right?

Yes, you will have to remove the board to install it, it is the best. This way they are more secure. I say mx4, because it is the one I use and it has always worked very well for me, the artic also does a very good job, although it needs more hours of "curing", to start working well.

Yes, it will almost certainly come with paste. it's not that you will notice 10 degrees with a good one, but it is better.

          Salu2…

Do not hesitate to change it.

I have this heatsink on my Dual-Core: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO, very similar to the one you have, and it works great for me.

Mine (I bought it in December) came with thermal paste but it wasn't applied, it was in a tube for you to apply it yourself, so you can put whatever you want without any problem.

            Best regards.

I don't even install the original one. If you blow on the processor you'll get better results than with the original heatsink.
As they indicate, just with a good paste (I use Artic Silver 5) you'll already lower several degrees. I'm not a fan of using the one that comes with the heatsink (my quirks I suppose), after all you don't know its properties or if it's quality.

Now I can't check the specifications of the ones you've mentioned. But since you'll be changing platforms sooner rather than later, choose a heatsink that is compatible with current sockets, without the need for complex accessories.

              Regards

Yes, that's my intention, I'm going all out, graphics source... proce.... my intention is to OC it and push it to the new socket.
For now... if it weren't for the temp.... I could play everything at full, but this issue won't let me even think about increasing the frequency, in fact, I have to lower it to be able to play. After all, that's what I use it for. It's my gaming platform. But I'm aware that I have 4 newscasts left.
I'm dreading having to disassemble everything.... but if there's no other way, I suppose it won't hurt and it'll remove the layers of dust that are left behind. (oh man... even so ;D)
Because I assume I won't have a conflict with the ram, right?
I'll stop by the store tomorrow and get it. If I see that I have to remove ram I'll return it.

for your micro that heatsink is weak, although if it's with the one that comes with it you would notice a difference

better something more decent: Scythe Ninja 3 Rev.B or Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev.A - 40 euros approx

                  regards

                    +1 :sisi:

With a 920, you need a bigger budget, or you'll be patching and spending twice.

                      Damn…. better late than never....
I just came back from buying it..... although I have 15 days to exchange it if I see that it's not effective.... I'll exchange it.
I'll do a mini-tracking of the temps before and after, which will take me time to set it up now.
Even so.... do you think it's worth investing 60€ in the i7??? I have the stock micro and I don't want to beat the oc record by raising it to 5, I think that reaching 3.3...3.5 will be more than enough. I insist that the pc still performs... if it weren't for the temp that doesn't leave me any margin. But I also don't want to spend a euro more than necessary.
If I have the memories at 1333 and I don't think it's worth giving up the ones I have to switch to another. I'll wait for the platform change. So my intention is to spend the minimum minimum minimum. And the truth is that now when I try it if it goes down what it should go down.... for 26€..... and in these times I can already be satisfied with a song. Even so, if I see that it's not worth it, I'll exchange it. Now I'll put some screenshots.

These are the screenshots, in idle with the stock cpu, playing, and playing with medium saving power.
I'm going to mess with the disipator.

                          hello
it's not about investing 60 euros in the I7, it's about investing in a cooler that is suitable for the platform you will have in the future (not too far away, because the intel kids have the strange hobby of changing the sockets every now and then)
a good cooler is a long-term investment, for example I myself have been in this clonic PC thing for years and I have only had two coolers (and I am very happy with both) a Thermaltake Big Typhoon and an Asus Triton 88
                          regards and good luck

Hello again, what a journey I've just gone through with the motherboard and the heatsink... I started yesterday evening and all morning today.... At first everything was very easy, placing the blackplate I hardly had to look at the instructions. The problems started once everything was assembled and put in the tower.....
I turned on the pc, but I got a no signal screen... I dismantled everything again, verifying that the heatsink on the motherboard was also well anchored and the connections as well... nothing... then it wouldn't turn on... with the power and reset buttons turned on, but it wouldn't respond. In the end I tried removing the battery from the motherboard... putting it in and out... I wouldn't know how to tell you why... but in the end... it worked.
After putting the heatsink in and out so many times, I think I've left the thermal paste poorly distributed, something I'll verify again later. Even so.... roughly speaking.... the temperature at idle has dropped by 10º, from between 38- and 41º, it's not... like discovering America, but today it's over 30º, the temperature inside the house will be around 26º, very good.
Now I'll try to give it some stress. And I'll take the screenshots

Hello guys, mama mia, yesterday I was still tinkering with the pc. I had a problem with the windows7 firewall that was holding back the connection. Today it's almost finished, I still have to put in the usb cables from the case, the audio and stuff... and the covers.

Honestly? the best 26€ I've spent, after the ram. Despite not having put the thermal paste with much care, and putting the one that came with the cooler master because the store didn't have another.....
                              these were the results
this image is in stock mode, then you'll see, energy saving and oc at 5%

You can see that I've lowered an average of 20..20 and a bit degrees, however in idle only 10
