Hello!, I wasn't sure if I should post this here or not, because as it's a 3G connection it could be related to mobile phones, but the use is on a PC, so I don't think I'm wrong.

I have Movistar Fusion with ADSL+fixed in my apartment and 1Gb of data for the mobile. I have extended it with 1Gb more of data and have duplicated the SIM to be able to use it in a Huawei brand 3G router that I have at my parents' house. Before I had 5Gb and it was enough for quite a lot, but now those 2Gb are also shared with the mobile.

What can I do to save data without giving up too much browsing? Obviously I don't load videos and I try not to visit places with too many photos (the typical forum branch "show your PC" or similar). So far several possibilities have crossed my mind:

      • Use Firefox with add-ons like adblock and flashblock (I already did this with 5Gb).
      • Use Opera and its turbo mode. I've used it a few times at work to bypass some proxy blocks but it's a bit slow. It's supposed to compress data on the Opera server and then send it to our browser.
      • Install an Android emulator. I'm currently testing Windroy and it's not bad, although for example the mouse wheel doesn't work and you have to click and drag with it as if you were using your finger on the mobile.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Another common sense tip is to not leave open pages that refresh every X amount of time, like caralibro, some digital newspapers, etc.

there was an option (at least in the past) that allowed you to browse without loading images, it's not the same, but it certainly saves a lot of bandwidth.
I also thought of using some add-on that allows you to change the browser's user-agent to pretend to be a mobile device and thus the web versions of those sites that have it consume less traffic

Yes, I already do not leave pages that auto-refresh open, as happens with Marca, especially if you are following a match.

Apart from that, I have not mentioned that I have disabled automatic updates for Windows 7, antivirus, Firefox, Thunderbird and others. I also do not allow Clementine to download information about the music.

Browsing without images is a bit hard for me, but I will have to look into the user-agent thing, apart from some application for twitter.

I don't know to what extent it helps to increase the cache that the browser uses, I suppose it does something if the same pages are visited every day or the same page several times a day.

I'll have to look into it, because I will go to a few sites and who knows
