I bought a Gigabyte motherboard for socket 1155 with an I5. When I went to install Windows XP 64, the system reboots only during installation, sometimes at one point, sometimes at another, after a few seconds or after a few minutes.

Before installing the OS, I had Windows XP 32 installed from the configuration of the old motherboard (775 with Core2Duo). With this new motherboard, Windows started, but the same thing: resets without more after a short time and without doing anything.

In the bios I have everything by default. The micro is cold. Everything is recognized and working.

Could it be some incompatibility? Or rather, is it a problem in the motherboard or in the power supply? Or maybe some bad contact from the installation of the motherboard? How can I know where the problem lies? On the bios screen the computer does not reboot alone even if I leave it for a while.

        Let's narrow down possible culprits:

        -Hard drive.
        -CD/DVD drive.
        -Corrupted Windows version.

Tell us about these three to see what's wrong... But before asking you, why don't you install Windows 7 on that computer? You'll get more out of it...

        Best regards

The hard drive has been working perfectly for a couple of years. The dvd drive is newly purchased and can't be the reason because the resets happened even when it wasn't used (with the previous Windows already installed). The Windows version… could be it. I can try installing with my old Windows XP 32, which is more than proven.

I need XP for the graphics card drivers, to work at 15khz.

Well try that previous version, it probably won't give you problems... Besides, the 64-bit Windows XP was a bit of a mess, it gave some minor problems, so it's quite likely.

I deduce that working at 15khz is not mandatory, are you going to play arcade games? I read something about it here.

            Regards

Yes, I will have the PC connected to a TV via Euroconnector. I'm interested in Windows XP 64 because MAME at 64 bits performs a little better. Anyway, if I don't fix it, I might take this motherboard and micro to the computer for regular use and take the Core2Duo E8500 that has the MAME computer, which the Asus motherboard with socket 775 has, which works perfectly with XP.

It will almost certainly be the windows… But try it, and if not, then the E8500, because putting an i5 in it seems like a waste to me.
