New graphics old equipment, possible?
-
Hello everyone
I have been given a somewhat old PC, I can't complain
It currently comes with modest graphics and limited performance
I would like to know what capacity the machine has to support this model or a similar one
ASUS GTX 650 Eco 1GB DDR5
According to the manufacturer, you don't need additional power supply because it doesn't exceed 75w consumption
My computer has these characteristicsWindows 7 Home Premium 32bits
MSI Spain – Motherboards - P6NGM-FD
Processor
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz, 2666 MHzMemory
Kingston 2x2 GB ddr2 667mhzRegards

It wouldn't be a bad option, you could also put a 7790 in it, or even with a little overclocking you add a powerful power supply and put a 7850 in it to go the extra mile. It's also true that investing so much in a graphics card for that machine isn't quote profitable, but it works. It would all depend on whether you don't have a budget for a new machine and have to go with that one, or if it's just a secondary machine for leisure or whims, where I wouldn't put more than 100€ in a graphics card and that's saying a lot.Saludos

The bad thing is the card, but I wouldn't put a 650, at least a 650Ti, they consume little and will clearly perform better, there would be no problem with the CPU if you had another card, I have a Q6600 with a P45 and a 470, that card isn't bad, I have the processor at 3400mhz, although I think the Q6700 are B3 and couldn't be overclocked much because they are hot, mine is G0, those are cooler and overclock better, but with a slightly better card it shouldn't be difficult to put it at 3200mhz that Q6700 and could work well with several cards, more powerful than the one you mentioned.
To be able to play at least something like this.
Asus GeForce GTX 650 Ti DirectCU II 1GB GDDR5 90YV03B2-M0NA00 Graphics Card
Gigabyte Radeon HD 7790 OC 1GB GDDR5 GV-R779OC-1GD Graphics Cardwith an overclocked CPU they should even handle cards like this, although somewhat limited, but not much.
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC 2GB GDDR5 GV-N660OC-2GD Graphics Card
Asus GeForce GTX 660 DiretCU II 2GB GDDR5 90YV03N1-M0NA00 Graphics Card
Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB GDDR5 11199-16-20G Graphics Cardwith the last three you should be able to play much better.
The 650 consumes little but Nvidia says 400W power supply for the whole system, the same is said for the Ti.

the only thing is that the Ti does need a 6-pin connector, but the card should come with an adapter to connect to two Molex, the same happens with the 660, which uses a single connector, the 7870 I think already asks for two connectors, although the 660 will ask for something more from the power supply than the 650Ti.regards

Hello again
Thank you for your responses
Indeed, I only need a more powerful graphics card (now 9500 GS 512MB) to play some simple game with few requirements
Because the thing is that I was about to buy an i5 and this one fell into my hands, so I buy graphics card, enjoy it and the equipment and when I get tired I change the machine and take advantage of that graphics card
If you tell me that the processor and the motherboard can handle the GTX 650, I will consider the consultation good and here the post would endRegards

I would go for the 7790 OC, which is slightly cheaper and performs a bit better than the 650Ti, not to mention it consumes less.
