Excuse the confusing question, I'll explain; I currently have an HTPC connected via PLC 500Mb to an Orange Livevox, which in turn is connected by cable to the desktop. Transferring files between computers gives me a limit of 7 MB/s. The question is, if I connect the PC and the PLC to the switch, would it improve the bandwidth between computers?

A while ago, a 200Mb PLC broke and I replaced the pair with others of 500. I was surprised because in the file transfer the performance did not improve at all, and I don't know if it's the router or the cables that are causing the bottleneck.

The network will be as fast as the slowest element that goes through it, so 7MB/s for a 100Mbps network is acceptable, but if you have Gigabit all the way through, then there is a bottleneck somewhere in the network.

        Salu2!

Beware of PLCs, I have one that uses a connection of up to 500 between both devices but it's LAN 100 (yes, I don't understand it either) and anyway when you check the real speed between both it's complicated to go beyond 170-250. I don't know how the one you have is but check that it's gigabit and not 100 (it appears in the connection properties), and the speed that the connection achieves (this depends on the electrical network, plugged into a socket without power strips or appliances will improve), that will be what gives the real speed and not the maximum theoretical speed at which the link is made, which is what they advertise to sell it. Most cheap PLCs are not 100% gigabit (they are usually 100, 200 and 500 some with LAN 10/100 and others with gigabit), apart from your electrical network allowing it. PD. I say this because of the print, 7MB/s seems to me to be a limitation of the electrical connection, you won't have it near other appliances or in a power strip? I say this because mine reaches 12MB/s and even gives peaks a little higher yes, in a socket for the only one.

You nailed it Bm4n, I bought 100Mb thinking I had enough :wall:. I didn't remember that. Topic closed then. I don't have them in a power strip but in a double socket, it's an installation that's 10 years old. The line supports me with the minimum of two computers, monitor, tv, printer, router, phone, lamp... Thanks!
