Do CD-ROMs have fuses?

Hello everyone:

I hope I'm not shocking you with my ignorance, but the fact is that I have a DVD and a CD burner that I've fried due to a power surge. The thing is, I opened it to see if there was a fuse I didn't see anything. The DVD, when I connect it to the computer, turns on with the activity LED without doing anything, and the burner doesn't move at all. The computer, when I have them plugged in, asks me to insert a boot disk, but if I unplug them, the PC boots up normally.

The components of a PC do not have fuses (except for the power supply), and the peripherals, except to protect an external power supply (transformer) that they may have, do not have them either, in principle.

Regarding the fact that it asks for a disk, if the CD/DVD is configured before the HDD in the boot list, it is normal

Test with power only, and after a few seconds press the button to open the tray, if it doesn't open or even try to open, you have a new paperweight in your hand.

If they pass that test, you try connecting the data cable, start it up and go into Multi-boot or BIOS and see if it detects it. If it does, you put in a LiveCD and test to see if it reads it.

One last option is that if you put in the CD/DVD and it starts to read it (the motor spins) but you get nothing, you could have a dirty lens.

Anyway, a DVD burner doesn't cost more than 20€, and if you can, I would almost recommend buying an external one that costs a little more, and that way you'll have a burner for both your PC and laptops, netbooks, etc...
