Well, after 9 years I have decided to upgrade the PC, or rather to change it almost entirely.

As I have always been more of an AMD fan, and I am on a tight budget, I have opted for AM3+ for a decent computer but without going overboard.

What I have chosen is as follows: Custom budget. PcComponentes.com

      • AMD FX 8350 Black Edition
      • Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
      • Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
      • G. SKILL DDR3 2400 PC3 19200 2*4GB CL10
      • Saphire R9 270x DUAL 2GB GDDR5

      To take advantage of.

      • A SATA 200 GB (later when I save up I will get a 256GB SSD)
      • A 500 GB SATA for data.
      • A normal Sharkoon mouse and an ASUS ROG keyboard.
      • A new Samsung PLS 27" monitor.
      • I am not going to put a reader or anything like that, and for the case and power supply I will get what I have now, a basic aerocool case and a normal 550W power supply (with the intention of changing it soon).

I want it for normal use of the Internet, video and photography and to play, basically WoW, Skyrim and strategy or online games (HearthStone, Civilization, Rome 2, LoL...).

The main doubt I have is the motherboard. Is it worth paying more for the 990FX or with a 970 like the GA-970A do I have more than enough? I don't think I will do Crossfire until the R9 is not enough for me, and by then it will almost be better to buy another one directly.

After the long process.... any advice??

      Thanks!

I have an AMD platform because it came out very well priced second-hand, but otherwise I would have an Intel i5 or an i7 :troll:

If you stick with the opinion of building an AMD, I recommend my motherboard, it is cheaper, quite nice for overclocking that is not extreme, and very stable: ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0 Around 85 Euros. You do not need a better motherboard for a system with a single graphics card.

By the way, if you build an AMD, go for an FX 8320, all go up at least to the frequency of the 8350 and you would save about 30€.

If on the contrary you change to Intel, an i5 generally performs better than an AMD like the one you indicate. In some games like Battlefield 4, AMDs perform very well, and in multi-threaded applications, but in general, Intels are better. The IPC (Instructions per cycle) of Intels is much superior to that of AMDs, that's why in general games go better with i5s with 4 cores than FXs with 8. Only in a few optimized games are AMDs superior.

With the AMD solution I propose: Motherboard + CPU about 220€ approximately.

With the Intel solution: Motherboard + CPU about 300€ approximately.

Is it worth it to invest in a more dead platform for about 80€, with generally less performance? You decide. If you had less budget, in general with AMD you can build more interesting things, but if you have for an FX-8350 and for a nice motherboard, you have for an i5.

AMD lately looks like it needs an intravenous transfusion if it doesn't want to look like Cyrix.
Besides, as they rightly indicate, I would go for an 1150 configuration with a Z87 or Z97 motherboard (for possible future overclocks) and a normal i5 (let's say an 4570). This way, if your luck changes and you decide to put a better i5 or an i7, you won't have to touch any other component.
Oh, and it also consumes less, which is appreciated later on the electricity bill. ;D

Today I think the i5 with 2GB VRAM is worse than the FX with 3GB, I wouldn't go below a 280 even if it's a dirty Sapphire 15 pavetes cheaper than the MSI. In micro you can save 40 euros from a 4460 to an 8320. I don't see the FX as bad if you get this:

              Sapphire R9 280 Dual-X OC 3GB GDDR5 11230-00-20G Graphics Card
              AMD FX Series FX-8320 3.5Ghz 8X FD8320FRHKBOX Processor
              Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P Socket AM3+ GA-970A-DS3P Motherboard
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Refurbished RR-212E-16PK-R1-RAS Fan/Cooler

If you're going for the 4460 and you're not going to push the graphics card much, get a B85M-D3H, it's a BBB setup.

As for memory, the cheapest 1600 for Intel, 1866 for AMD.

I am going to look at prices for all the combinations you recommend.

                i5 + R9 270
                Fx 8320 + R9 280

What I do have more or less clear is the Gigabyte motherboard. Here in the Canary Islands, the humidity and salt spray near the sea is terrible and I already ruined a graphics card, motherboard, and the whole tower rusted for that reason. Let's see if Gigabyte is as tough as they advertise hehe. Asrock has never given me confidence because of their experiments from the past, although they are probably good now, and I have always been an Asus person, but I am going to try Gigabyte to see how it is.

Now that we are into Intel, I think I will also look at the difference between a decent i5, or a low/normal i7. Will it be worth it?

                Many thanks to everyone!

the motherboard thing, better one of these, the one I gave you is a bit older, I have Asrock and I guarantee you that it is of 1st quality, it is not the old weak brand of ASUS. but any of the two are good options,

                  Asrock Z97 Pro4 - Motherboard - 113 euros

                  Gigabyte Z97-HD3 - Motherboard - 112 euros

                  regards

Well, in the end, between one thing and another, I'm going to get everything from a local distributor that I have access to and I'll get Intel in this configuration, even though I have to increase the budget a little (I'll have to drink less xD). I'll put the configuration that I think I'll stick with.

                    • Thermaltake Versa G2 Black Case (A normal case but from a decent brand).
                    • FA Tacens Radix VI 550W or NOX Urano SX 500 (I have a 600 but normal without 6-pin connectors or anything, and I'm not sure if it will hold the VGA with adapters).
                    • Gigabyte H97-HD3 Motherboard (I don't think I'll do OC so this is more than I need).
                    • Intel i5 4590 Microprocessor.
                    • 2x4 GB DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX. (The distributor here doesn't have G. Skill and these are the same price).

                    And the doubt I have.

                    • AMD R9 270 ASUS 2 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card or get the Gygabyte R9 270xOC 4 GB GDDR5, for 35 € more. Is it worth it?

In the end I got the small VGA, the R9 270 OC 2GB from Asus.

And I also changed the power supply, I got the Tacens Radix VII 600W 80+Silver.

I already have it assembled and it works very well. I only installed WoW and it runs with everything at maximum, at 1080, between 60 and 100 fps in the open field.

                          Happy for now.

By the way, I have to say that the components are coming shorter and shorter (it must be the crisis). Before they came with lots of cables, accessories... nothing now. the motherboard with two SATA cables and off you go, and the VGA a DVI adapter and the Crossfire cable, I thought that this graphics card came with BF4 but it seems not xD.

Many thanks to everyone for the advice.

I don't know how the landscape is now, but a few years ago Tacens were the worst when it came to power supplies, especially the Radix range (I did a review of 35 power supplies and that was the worst  ) I hope you don't have problems with it ?

I was between this one and the aerocool kcas 600w and everything I read was that between the two the tacens was more reliable, so I got this one.

So far it's going well, let's see how it behaves jeje.
