How to start PC for password forgotten?

Hello companions, my daughter has a laptop on which she changed the password and now she doesn't remember it. It's an I3 with Windows 8. I've looked at some tricks on the net but it hasn't worked and I don't know how to fix it. She's desperate and needs it for school.

The only thing that comes to mind is to put the disk in another computer so that it boots from secondary and copy all the information and then reinstall.

Activate the administrator account and log in to it, you probably set the password on a different user account.

To activate the administrator account (which is disabled by default) you need to run the following command:

net user administrator /active:yes

But since you do not have access to another Windows account, this command will not work for you, so you will have to use a tool that loads at startup as the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor. Download it on another PC, burn the ISO to a CD (or the USB version), boot the PC from the CD, select the disk where Windows is installed, type the path to the Windows registry (the one it suggests by default is usually correct, so press Enter), press "q", select option "1" (Password Reset), type "Administrator" as the account name, select option "4" (unlock and enable user account), type "!" intro and "q" intro to save changes and exit.

Now you can restart the computer, log into Windows with the Administrator account (which should appear for you to select when you reach Windows) and from that account you change the password for your daughter's account in the user management of the control panel.

I have done it with hirens boot cd and minixp, there is a very good guide out there.

Thanks to all for your responses. At the institute they offered to leave it there and they would look at it (a technician). I don't know in the end how they resolved it, but he has been able to log back in again and keeping the programs installed.

I'm saving this post in favorites in case something similar happens again some other day.
