I think there aren't many Linux users around here, but just in case there are any, you might be interested in a tool I've been developing to search for packages. It consists simply of a search engine that finds the packages and provides a link to download it in the available architectures.

I'm not a programmer and I do it in the little free time I have, so it's not great but it's practical for searching for packages from distros different from the one you use since sometimes they are compatible with each other.

The latest updated packages from the available distros are also shown. At the moment the database contains the official repositories of Mageia 3, 4 and Cauldron (which in a couple of months will become Mageia 5). The official repositories of OpenSUSE for the active versions are also available.

I know that there are similar services but my idea is to centralize the information of all possible distros since the software packaged between distros often works between them either by installing the package directly or converting debs into rpms and vice versa.

The next distro I plan to include is Debian and some unofficial repositories of Mageia. Any suggestions are welcome.

Interesting!. Does it include other repositories or sources apart from the official ones?. Although you don't have Debian at the moment, nor Ubuntu although in some cases they are interchangeable, I like that Mageia is there, my favorite outside the world of DEB.

At the moment only official ones including the update repositories. One of the ideas is precisely that: to include non-official repositories.

In order not to open another thread, I'll use this one.

I've programmed a small tool to help choose a distribution. It's based on the /g/ scheme.

Any suggestions, bug reports or comments are welcome.
