Hello, I've been having this problem for a while, and I was hoping that updating to Windows 10 would fix it.
Let me tell you, on an LG R700 laptop with an nVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT graphics card and Windows Vista, I would set the screen to turn off after a certain amount of time, and it would turn off. I installed Windows 7 and it no longer turns off, it just does a little flicker and stays on.
Now with Windows 10 it's the same thing, I've uninstalled the nVIDIA driver and Windows has installed one that says "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter", but it still does the same thing.
I think it might be the nVIDIA driver, because I tried installing Windows 7 from scratch, it put a generic driver and the screen would turn off, when Windows Update updated it, it put the nVIDIA driver and it stopped working.
What can I do to make the screen turn off after a certain amount of time?
Regards.

I don't know how long it's been since you no longer have Vista, but if it's been a long time, consider the possibility that it's not a problem with the OS or the driver, but with the fact that the laptop is getting old

What I mean is that perhaps the problem is not in any configuration, but in the fact that for example you have a touchpad that triggers touches (moves the cursor slightly only), or the mouse has some thread that reactivates the computer/screen.
Try doing tests with Ubuntu or with Vista to confirm that it only happens with the "new" Windows OS.
Salu2!

Hello Fassou, if it only happens with Windows 7 and Windows 10, in Windows Vista I don't have this problem, and I use the same mouse, and I have the touchpad deactivated, I have also tried removing the mouse, and the screen does not turn off.
As I have already commented when I was installing Windows 7, and I had a generic driver, it did work, I installed the one from nVIDIA and it stopped working, but now I have a generic one and the screen does not turn off.
P.D. this time I have received the notification of new answers by email.
Regards.

I'm using a LG Philips LP171WE3-TLA2 monitor, and I can't find the driver for this monitor, it has a Generic PnP Monitor installed, I don't know if this has anything to do with it.
