Hello, I have tried everything and I can't find the solution, it won't let me update the activated and validated Windows 7 Professional SP1, when I go into Windows Update and click to search for updates, it keeps thinking and does nothing, it should show me the updates.

Since Windows 7 has moved to extended support, this is something that happens regularly. Be prepared for a lot of patience because with some computers I have had to wait up to 24 hours to get the first updates. Other times it has taken less than an hour to start. That said, be patient because it does end up updating, but it takes an egg and half of another.

Well sorry for the refloat, but something pretty curious is happening to me now.
The fact that it takes a long time, the truth is that never happened to me; either it gave me an error (which I solved by restarting and deactivating the antivirus while looking for updates) or it took me less than five minutes.
The thing is that now, simply by selecting Windows Update (I had to remove the one that would search for them automatically) it already takes up from 30% to 40% of the CPU, I don't even have to click on "Check for updates".
Obviously, I can only use the browser and light games while that happens, because with GTA V it gives me some brutal lag.
Not even running a scan with the antivirus, nor after running scandisk, does anything weird come up. The FixIt supposedly marks it as solved, but whatever.
I must emphasize that the drive ? has about 10 GB of available space, the version of Windows Update is up to date and sfc /scannow doesn't give any errors.
Right now I'm not even considering reinstalling W7 or updating it to W10, so unless you suggest something that I've overlooked, I'll leave the updates deactivated.
Best regards and thanks in advance.

Is Windows fully updated? Because the damn thing updates on its own, even if you can't find it in the application, as it's the service that messes everything up. Disable it from 'Services' and see how it goes.

              Thanks for responding.
The issue is not that, even with the service set to Automatic (Delayed) while having the search for updates disabled, there is no problem; the laugh comes when from the control panel you press "Windows update", you can already go to sleep because even without selecting "search for updates" you already have the corresponding svchost giving you a hard time.

When it finally showed me the important updates available (nine in total), I clicked to download and install and neither one nor the other, it stayed with the same use of resources but nothing more.

Updates, now they come out every month, and the last ones I have are between the 15th and the 23rd of last month; that's why it surprised me that this happens now.
I also want to mention that Process Explorer doesn't show me any foreign process, so I also rule out the issue of rootkits.

For the rest, the computer works like the first day, so, although it bothers me to have something that's not working, I leave it as "peccata minuta".
Anyway, when it refreshes a bit I'll leave it overnight to do whatever it wants.

              Thanks again.

Edit: To try, I have changed the service to "manual" and I am trying again, we'll see what happens.

I use Windows very little at home, but I also have a 7 and if I have had some problems with a group of between seven and nine updates, but I attributed it to a program that I used to block updates to Windows 10. Then I look to see if it does to me like to you.

Nothing, an hour and a half and it's still the same, with the processor at 30% doing seemingly nothing.
Like I said, I disable updates and that's it.

You pay a license for this.

Updating Windows 7 has become a nightmare. At first, I thought the same thing: I thought there was a problem. When the PC is freshly formatted, it can run perfectly for 24 hours, as Yorus mentioned.

The other day, I tried updating Windows 7 on a virtual machine and gave up, even though it had only gone a few months without an update.

It has happened to me on some machines, it is a problem with the wuauserv service. On some it was solved by installing the latest version of the Windows Update Client, on others it is simply a matter of being patient and waiting for it to decide to install them. Sometimes if you shut down the computer, a few are installed and you get out of the hole.

Well, it fills me with pride and enormous satisfaction to tell you that, after an hour and twenty-five minutes of work, and while I was taking the opportunity to do penance for my sins by watching "Batman vs Superman", I have managed to successfully complete the update (6 new updates).

Thanks to everyone for your contribution. ?

I have also been able to see that the new W7 installations do not update until you turn off that computer at least once. And then if it is on automatic, it does it in batches.

And if you try to force it, it keeps searching indefinitely

I am glad that in the end you were able to solve it.

                          Regards!
