My GTX 670 has died
-
Good morning. It has been a long time since I entered this forum due to lack of time. However, while I was playing a game of The Sims 3, my computer suddenly stopped, without warning and after restarting, the images that showed the computer were ugly, faded, so it could only be a matter of the graphics card. I look at the lights of said card, and I see that both lights are red. The GTX 670 graphics card has suddenly died after four years of service
What solution can I find for this?
Any recommendations on a new graphics card?

Well, man, let it cool down, it might not be anything, but if not do you have an oven handy? ;D
In the worst case, look at a GTX750, GTX960, R9 380X…
And I take this opportunity to put this meme

TRUE
I recently revived the laptop's graphics of a colleague (a Sany Vaio) with a hair dryer

Unfortunately I couldn't do anything. In fact, every image came out in just 16 colors and at the "ugly" resolution of 320 x 240, as in the times before Windows 3.1. The graphics card said "Enough" and died. So I had no choice but to keep using the GTS 450 to get by and think about a new graphics card.
I was looking at graphics cards for my main computer, including the GTX 960 and the Radeon 380. However I soon ruled out the Radeon 380 due to the terrible power consumption just to perform a little better than the GTX 960, so I went straight for the GTX 960.
What do you think of the Gigabyte Geforce GTX960 OC 4GB?

Some posts bet more on the 970 with the argument that in a couple of years the 960 will be "short" to run new titles.

P.d I still have my 660 -
Well look for a 960 or something like that.
I wouldn't spend a lot of money if the 670 worked well for you. -
On amazon you have it cheap

Playing The Sims 3, it's normal for the graphics to crash so as not to endure such a game. :ugly:
Regarding the 960 GTX, the 4 Gigabytes model seems like a lot of memory for what the graphics can handle. In other words, if you start loading the graphics with filters, it will use more than 2 Gigabytes in some games at Full HD; but it won't perform well. The graphics perform similar to previous AMD models like the 280 - 280X. It would be between those two graphics more or less.
If you read a bit more about the graphics, it's not that in real tests, I'm not talking about synthetic tests, it consumes less than equivalent AMD models; and on the other hand, the consumption in this range of graphics you won't notice much on the electricity bill; and if the graphics is well refrigerated, I don't see the problem.
In summary, buy the AMD or the Nvidia but don't focus so much on consumption. After all, if you play, what you want is for the game to run smoothly above all.
Now seriously, a shame about the graphics, it was still a powerful graphics card today.

Today I found out why my GTX 670 died. With FRAPS I did a test in The Sims 3 with the GTS 450, which is far inferior to the GTX 670 or the GTX 960, which is the one I have in mind. The Sims 3 doesn't have V-sync, or rather vertical synchronization, and in fact it was also emitting the squeak, and even louder than with the GTX 670. There were times when FRAPS showed more than 2000 FPS, when it should be capped at 60 FPS. Especially when the game starts and in the main menu. And I'm talking about a GTS 450. In no other game did something like this happen to me.
Today I thought I would never be able to play this game again, but fortunately I discovered that I could use vertical synchronization if in the nVidia control panel I ordered that the executable of The Sims 3 and all its expansions, whether of accessories, or of an expansion itself, vertical synchronization be activated. It stopped making the squeak and fortunately I managed to make it not exceed 60 FPS.
Too bad I didn't realize this much earlier. :wall:
