A few years ago I wrote about a game called Rigs of Rods. This game has been catching my attention since the beginning and I have been following its development sporadically. A few weeks ago I noticed that its website was defaced and that the community was rebuilding. I went to the forum and asked the reason. It turns out that the main developer decided to create a paid game based on RoR: BeamNG.drive. The truth is that, after seeing the project stagnating for a long time, it seemed perfect to me that money was asked to continue the work. So I bought it (just under 20€) and the truth is that the advances with respect to RoR are beastly.
On the one hand they have updated the Ogre graphics engine (which looked good a few years ago but not anymore) to CryEngine3, so the appearance is completely renewed. In addition they have put new and quality content (it was noticeable that RoR was an amateur work) and it has a fairly active community contributing content: maps, vehicles, sounds, etc.
The game, apart from the more realistic physics in a car game that I have seen, has nothing special. In fact it is in an early phase of development and it is not expected that it will ever get out of there. But I like its sandbox style and I have spent a few hours doing the donkey.Another thing I like a lot is that with the app for Android, you can use the mobile as a steering wheel. You just have to run the app, scan a QR code and, being within the same network, you can drive the vehicle. I think this is a bit of a show-off.
Although in the video it seems that there is some delay between the movement and the reaction, and to me it works instantly.More information on its website.
