      Hello forum how are you?
I introduce myself my name is Patricio and I am from Bs.As.

I tell you I am trying to OC a intel E7400 micro 2.8ghz currently I have it running at 3.5ghz,with a FSB of 340 the multiplier at 10.5

      My mother is a g31TM-P21

      I have 3gb of RAM 1x2gb kingston 667mhz and 1x1gb kingston of 800mhz

currently the micro at rest both cores are around 45º and fullbenchs at 60º

My doubt is the following, when I try to increase the frequency more, let's say to FSB: 345 my pc directly does not start, when at 340 it is completely stable although I stress it for 1 hour, what can this be due to?

Will it be due to the Vcore? I searched in the BIOS but I did not find how to modify the values, currently it is at 1,1V will it be that my mother does not allow me?

How much do you think is the maximum frequency that the E7400 supports assuming that I manage to modify the Vcore?

      Thank you very much!
      Regards
      PACIO!

Hello Pacio. Welcome to the forum.
Have you tried booting it up with the same RAM only? That is, only with the 1 GB module at 800 Mhz or only with the 2 at 667 Mhz.
Perhaps that is one of the reasons it won't boot up.

        Best regards

Many thanks nemo for responding to me!

I did what you asked me to, in fact I changed the 2gb ram I had for another kingston of 2gb but 800mhz from another pc I have at home (although it's the same I think because the previous one also ran at 852mhz)

The thing is that I left only the 2gb in the slot, I raised the fsb to 350 (multiplier 10.5), that is, I raised the freq. from 3570mhz to 3775mhz and directly it didn't start up again :wall::wall:

To give you an idea, I configured from the bios that the cooler of the heatsink NOT START up until the micro exceeds 65º and only turns on for 10 seconds when starting windows, after that only in fullbenchs it starts 20 seconds every 4 or 5 minutes, it is super stable at 3570mhz, that's why I can't understand that by raising only 100mhz directly it doesn't start up, I suspect some limitation of the mother, but until a month ago I had an E5500 of 2.8GHZ also and I managed to increase it up to 3.7GHZ, after that I had the same thing as with this one, but I reached a higher frequency, do you have any idea? that is not buying me a good micro and stop bothering with this gadget, I am determined to squeeze it;D!

          regards
          PACIO!

Most likely the memory won't hold that speed.

Check the RAM multiplier, in case it lets you lower it.

              Hello Fassou

I also suspected the rams, so I lowered their frequency to about 670mhz, first I tested if it booted normally (it should do so but to not leave loose ends) and it booted OK with FSB: 340

then I went up to 345 and it doesn't boot

Then I paid attention to other items in the same tab of the bios and I disabled spread spectrum (which I read is used to reduce EMI noise) that can harm the signal when the freq is increased

I went up again to 345 the FSB and nothing :wall:

I will continue to investigate the other items to see if any of them allows me to increase the frequency a little more, and if not I will have to get a motherboard that allows me to modify the Vcore (which is my main suspicion that it won't let me go any higher ¿can it be or is it impossible?)

any ideas you come up with I will appreciate them!
Finally I leave you a picture of my bios to see if you see something that I don't..

              Regards!

The voltage thing is not at all far-fetched, because there are many processors that on modest motherboards, as soon as you try to overclock them beyond a minimum, they just won't boot. If you could test on another motherboard that allowed you to modify the Vcore, you would know for sure.

By the way, don't rule out updating the BIOS to the latest version, maybe there is some function related to voltage in the latest revision available, if you don't have it already.

                Best regards!
