Unlocking Stream Processors on RX460
-
It seems that some specific models of this graphics card are successfully unlocking all the Stream Processors they carry through modified BIOS, achieving a considerable performance improvement.
The cards in question are one model from Asus and another from Sapphire.

@Fassou these are the things that are missed in the little world, like the mod of the ati 9500 to 9700pro, or the athlon xp unlocking the multiplier. They have removed almost all possibilities of overclocking unless you spend a fortune, it has lost its charm.

@kynes But if they keep releasing hardware capped via software and people are uncapping it by touching the BIOS, they could bring back the laser cutter like in the past.
And then some crazy person would teach us how to "resolute" it somehow

Well that would be nice

Since I'm a very bad person, a friend told me... buy me a cheap graphics card to play WOW... lol and I got this one knowing that some could be mutated. The similar Nvidia ones were more expensive, so I'm going to prove to him that with this graphics card and an SSD his Quad Core 775 can still hold its own... and if not I'll end up with a black eye... but I like the risk and didn't want to make the kid spend too much.
I had read about failures with this graphics card on Windows 10, but with Windows 7 with a Q9550 with 6 Gigas of RAM it moves WOW very well at Full HD. Plus it doesn't even need extra power. I think it's a great graphics card for the price it has, that is, if you're not demanding. Meanwhile I'll keep using the 7950 Boost which still holds its own for occasional bad shots.

@amd125 Did you manage to unlock it?
-
Not yet... but basically I installed it and the next day my friend had surgery... so I left it "virgin". I'll go see how my friend is in a week... and depending on how happy he is with the graphics, I'll tweak it or not. He doesn't know anything about computers, so maybe I'll change the computer to an I5 and then I'll consider unlocking it. But since he basically plays WOW, if the game runs well, I'll leave it like this for a season, until I change the whole computer and tweak it properly.
If I feel like unlocking it I'll comment on the forum, because I read about people who had problems and I don't want to mess with this guy, because in the end the one who has to go to his house to fix any PC problems is me... so I'll let you know if I finally unlock it or not in a week or so, but for the price it had (there are new ones for +-100€ at PC components) it didn't seem like such a bad graphics card, and the fact that it doesn't need an external power supply is a plus for computers with crappy or not very powerful power supplies.

@amd125 How does the story end? Is your friend okay? Did you unlock the card...?
-
Hello:
Well, things ended badly because the graphics card caused the image to freeze in some games like WOW while the sound continued. I read that other people had experienced the same issue in games like Diablo... so we reformatted, I installed several drivers... and tired of it, I returned it and bought the 1050 GTX TI.
My friend has a Quad Core 775 and wanted to play WOW. I put that graphics card in it because he wouldn't be able to take full advantage of it with his processor. I put a Crucial SSD in it and he's delighted, but the experience with the graphics card was very bad. A shame because it didn't perform badly for what it cost, but I wouldn't recommend it. If it had been for me, I would have had more patience, but my friend lives in Alcalá de Henares and I in Madrid. I didn't want to go to his house for days, because between going and coming back, I would lose two more hours of time that I would be at his house... And since he's on sick leave, he wanted the computer to play, so back to Amazon, bought the new one and I think it will be able to handle the equipment for another 1-2 years or until he gets bored because he only plays WOW and with the SSD the computer works very well for him.
I don't know if they have ironed out the drivers to date, but it disappointed me.

I forgot to comment in case you're interested that there are websites that say how to cheat the drivers so that the graphics can be unlocked. It didn't seem complicated when I saw it, but since I returned it, I didn't feel like touching anything.

@amd125 Well, it seems that there are quite a few users with signal loss issues on the RX 460/470, regardless of the assembler. Quite a nuisance, not a bad graphics card, but with that flaw.
-
Yes, a hassle because it was not very expensive, and in the end I had to mount the 1050 GTX TI which cost almost 50% more, when the RX460 was enough for my friend. That's right, until the image froze, my friend's computer was still alive.
I had thought about upgrading my AMD 7950 with an AMD RX480 but after seeing this, I lost the desire... so for the little I play, I will continue with the old one. Total right now I have "Zero" games installed... that's what age does... I like to play less and less.
