[Short entry] Major monitor manufacturers fined for price-fixing scheme
-
There has been a lot of talk here about the possible price-fixing pact between the few RAM manufacturers as the cause of their high prices. But another device that has been stagnant for a few years is that of monitors. We are just over a year away from ending this decade and the most common screens are still FullHD where you have to spend almost €300 to get the cheapest 4k screen.
Well, the European Commission has imposed a fine of just over 100 million to Asus, Denon & Marantz, Philips and Pioneer for price-fixing. The worst hit is Asus followed by Philips and all of them have a reduction in the fine for collaborating with the investigation.
I am not sure if 100 million between 4 manufacturers is a derisory fine or is a percentage to be taken into account in their billing for this hardware. At least let's hope it serves as a lesson and they start to see models more in line with these times at reasonable prices.
