Asus P5K-VM motherboard shows no signs of life
-
Good afternoon gentlemen, how are you? I am turning to your knowledge to see if you can help me out. As I mentioned in another post, my Abit AW9D motherboard was not working very well, it started beeping all over the place until it stopped working altogether. For this reason and due to the lack of budget to acquire the new PC that I configured with your help, I bought an Asus P5K-VM for my LGA775 socket.
At the time of purchase they sent me a video of the motherboard in operation and it was perfect. I received it, I changed everything from the Abit to the Asus... everything turned on, no beeping so that was good news. The problem is that the Asus has built-in video and you have to disable it from the BIOS, I don't have a VGA monitor... so until today when I received an HDMI to VGA adapter I couldn't test it again. I connected it hoping there would be an image... and nothing. I have tried changing the RAM modules, nothing, all the cables are connected where they should be, the coolers start up... but, there is no image. What theories do you have or what extra information can I provide so that you can figure something out? will I need a VGA monitor? are my options running out?
Thank you very much! -
Hello,
Have you tried resetting the BIOS? It's possible that the integrated graphics are disabled in the BIOS because the previous owner configured it that way. By resetting it, it should be activated by default and thus display an image.
Another possibility is that the adapter you bought is not working correctly for some reason, but this is less likely.
If none of this works, I recommend trying a PCI-E graphics card, as your motherboard has a slot for it and will automatically detect it as the primary adapter and display an image through it.
Best regards!

Many thanks Sylver for the quick response. I have not yet tried the option you gave me, I simply installed the graphics card I had previously bought (a GeForce 210) and it did not work. I will try to reset the BIOS as you say to see what happens, although I insist, I watched again the video that the person who sold me the card sent me and it was connected to the integrated video.
On the other hand... I mention that I had put the connectors for the speaker, HDD leds and others the wrong way around... that's why there were no beeps (HUGE FACE PALM). When I did that, I have one long beep and three short beeps. Looking it up on ASUS motherboards, they say that it is because the video card is not getting power... I took it out so that only the integrated video is used and it still makes the same beeps. Now I am more lost than before. -
You're welcome. I recommend cleaning the PCI-E slot with a brush or something similar to remove any dust or dirt that may be interfering with the proper connection of the graphics card. I recommend the same operation for the RAM slots, they are problematic in 80% of cases.
Best regards!

Well, I cleaned the connector, I removed the 4 RAM modules, I tested them one by one in the different sockets, with and without the PCI-E card... and it's still the same, what did catch my attention is that sometimes it turned on and didn't make any beep... sometimes it turned on and made one long and 3 short beeps (VGA failure)... other times one long and 4 short beeps (hardware failure). Reading I saw that it could also be a PSU failure?

If the source is wrong, everything may be failing, but it is more rare. Did you reset the BIOS?

Yes, I did it according to the manual. Disconnect the cable, remove the battery, change the jumper position and leave everything like that for 10 seconds, put everything back in place in reverse order. Still, nothing.

Well, the only thing that comes to mind is that it may have been damaged during transport. It has happened to me before, a blow in the wrong place can cause damage to the motherboard and it won't start up anymore.
Even so, I would try with various PCI-E graphics cards to make sure that the port or the board is actually damaged.

Well, I finally succumbed to tiredness @sylver. I took it to the service center... the problem was the USB reader and other stuff on the front of the Lian Li V600 case... they disconnected it and changed the battery (?) and it turned on. Now to configure everything. Issue closed. Thanks for everything!

@desvest If you changed the battery and it started, the BIOS would have been reset. Anyway, I'm glad they fixed it for you.
