Move to mixed reality and... new team?
-
Hello hardlimit family,
As always, I bring you my doubts about decision making.
This Black Friday I was finally able to buy something I've always wanted to invest in...VR, or in this case mixed reality, specifically the Lenovo Explorer.
For now I'm doing tests and in all fairness, it seems that my 7870 with 2 GB won't be able to give me much joy with what these glasses require.
I know I need to change it, and now I'm torn between a 1060 or a 580... I know it's not the best time because of the mining issue... so I hope they go down a bit.
But what worries me the most is the equipment... my i5 3570 seems to be very tight, so I must think about whether to invest in looking for something second-hand for my 1155 architecture or think about changing, which would force me to look for a platform and see if I can at least take advantage of memories...
...for now, how do you see it? should I look to change only the graphics or should I venture into an entire platform?
Many thanks for your help...

@crashon I have no idea about VR
But I see that at Techradar they dare to comment on the requirements according to Microsoft
*At the very least, you will need the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, an Intel Core i5-7200U processor or better, 8GB of DDR3 dual channel RAM or better, 10GB of free disk space, an Intel HD Graphics 620 or DX12-capable GPU, and HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2 as well as USB 3.0 Type-A or Type-C.
Keep in mind that the above specs are only good enough for a 60-frames-per-second (fps) experience. To get to 90fps, Microsoft suggests a system specced with at least a desktop-grade Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 3.4Ghz – or another quad-core processor. You'll also need a discrete GPU at least on the level of an Nvidia GTX 1050. Just keep in mind, if you’re going to take advantage of Mixed Reality on Steam VR, system requirements may vary by game.*
In the end, they are just two 1440p micro screens, and with games in between, I see that the reviews do not go below a GTX980, which is the fastest and cheapest way you can use it with some guarantees.
But you know that you will have to change your equipment in the medium term if you are going to use it for that.
Best regards!

@crashon It's hard for them to go lower, but considering that on Black Friday the RX580s were at 199€, that was a great deal!
