Extended support for Windows 7
-
In January, Windows 7 will no longer receive support. But for businesses and other organizations, there is the possibility of paying a fee to continue receiving security updates. Prices start at for the first year, for the second, and for the third.

It's a perfectly understandable solution, Windows 7 is already over 10 years old. They want to migrate everyone to Windows 10 to avoid fragmentation, and if you want the security patches, pay for them, which is much easier to justify in a business environment.

I also think it's quite normal and in fact, a good service on the part of Microsoft. To be honest, I expected Windows 7 to be completely abandoned and I don't see any reason to keep Windows 7. The hardware hasn't evolved as much as it did when we moved from Windows XP to 7; back then it was more understandable that it was necessary for some to keep XP for a while longer. An average decent PC from 10 years ago can run Windows 10 without any major problems. A PC from the late 90s that could run Windows XP with some ease (let's say a Pentium II/III) couldn't run Windows 7 in a functional way, not even remotely.
