Intel's modular computer
-
The hardware developer has introduced a new concept of computer that comes in PCIe card format and includes everything essential: processor, RAM, M2 slots, USB buses, ethernet, etc. The idea is to facilitate the replacement of these components without having to change them one by one.

Honestly, it seems to me like a way to have captive customers and squeeze more out of them. You manufacture the complete module, so you make money on the processor, but also on the rest of the components, and instead of replacing the component, you replace the entire system.
The only advantage I see is that by changing the module, you save time, since you don't have to figure out which part is failing, you change everything at once and that's it.
