ARM manufactures a processor without silicon

In partnership with PragmatIC, ARM has created a microcontroller using the M0 repertoire. It is a processor that runs at 30kHz and consumes 21 milliwatts. The material used in place of silicon has been plastic.

I don't understand what kind of application this could have. What is the use of a 30kHz processor? What advantages does it have over silicon?

Being flexible, it can be used in clothing, for example. For sensors, it does not require much computing power, it could be used in t-shirts to provide real-time information on pulse, blood oxygen level... being a very low-power chip, and less invasive than a silicon one.

Surely this processor is not suitable for displaying a video on a cereal box but perhaps it could show an expiration date or a countdown of days until the product has expired, a temperature indicator or a monitoring system to know if the cold chain has been broken in frozen products. A plastic chip costs a few cents and is something that can be added to the packaging with a marginal cost.

palotes I don't want to be a taliban but marginal cost is not what you say. It is the increase in cost to produce one more unit of product. I think you meant that it has a negligible increase in cost or that the increase in cost is marginal. jfyi
