Counter-Strike 2
-
A couple of days ago, Valve announced the second part of what was once a simple mod for Half-Life.To be honest, I thought Counter-Strike: Source was the second part. In fact, I believe that technically the move from the GoldSrc engine (based on the Quake engine from 1996) to Source was a much bigger step, not only in terms of graphics, but also in the simulation of physics with Havok. Moreover, on the official CS 2 page, they list CS:GO as the previous version of Counter-Strike, which makes the nomenclature even less meaningful.
But leaving aside my confusion (which is perhaps more due to the fact that Valve doesn't know how to count to 3) and my personal perception of the advancement of changes, the truth is that the official second part looks very good.
Surely, its strong point is that it doesn't bring an incredible amount of new features. With what little they've shown, it seems that they've managed to maintain the essence and at the same time, they've managed to bring it up to date.
Its premiere is scheduled for the summer of this year, that is, 24 years after the premiere of the first beta of the original mod (June 19, 99).
According to their announcement, there are three major new features:
Much more realistic smoke
The introduction of subticks
Three types of maps
- Maps remade from scratch (based on previous versions)
- Maps that use the new lighting techniques of Source 2
- Reference maps, which are maps from previous versions that have barely received any changes.
In summary, they seem to be quite natural and positive changes: graphic improvements and improvements in the management of events for network games.
You have a little more information on the page they have prepared (very beautiful, by the way).

It is a saga that has accompanied us throughout our life as a "gamer" and it is appreciated that the community can continue to have a future. They have done a good graphic job as seen in the videos, (although those smokes are dynamic I think they don't look as natural as they used to look) It is quite important that they have maintained inventories and objects that could be collected over the years, which was a burden they had when it came to being able to release a more modern version because the community would attack the developers when they talked about how the objects from previous versions would be incompatible. I have always played CounterStrike, I hope to continue enjoying this version that is coming to us -
@hin I love it, I'm starting to put in a lot of hours... if it keeps going like this, I think they've really nailed it.

For me... I hope it lasts for many more years, I have some impressive vices.
