RISC-V begins its foray into the desktop
The open ISA RISC-V has taken one of its first steps on the desktop, a terrain monopolized by x86. The motherboard has a mini-ITX format and comes with a SiFive P670 with 16 cores (similar to a Cortex-A78). The board is also compatible with LPDDR5 memory and comes with the typical ports of a current PC.
Another text editor for Linux
Someone has been developing micro, a text editor for the console that wants to take a step up in functionality compared to nano. It continues to be a minimalist program although it brings some extras such as the possibility of having multiple cursors and improvements in mouse management.
ARM processors from Nvidia for PC
Nvidia wants to bring ARM to the PC (if it could still be called that) so as not to have to depend on Intel's architecture in a strategy that seems to follow in the footsteps of the M1. We will have to see if the performance of Windows for ARM manages to achieve Apple's feat with the aforementioned.
Western Digital wants Kioxia
The former SSD memory division of Toshiba, Kioxia, will become part of Western Digital in the coming months.
KDE 6 in February
The KDE development team has already said that the sixth version of the desktop environment along with its framework will be available on February 28.
Performance of the Snapdragon X Elite
News about the performance leaps of ARM continue to appear. This time a series of benchmarks of the Snapdragon X Elite have been published where it is stated that it surpasses the M2 Max and the i9. The comparisons they have made are not very rigorous because they mix operating systems, hardly any GPU tests have been done and it has not been tested with real loads, but there they are.
Firefox 119 available
The one hundred and nineteenth version of Firefox comes with the possibility of seeing all the open tabs from all windows through Firefox View. In addition, it is now possible to add images to PDFs. On the other hand, there are improvements related to privacy.
Engineering sample of the i7-11800H
@pos_yo has brought us an engineering sample of the i7-11800H in all modes. The processor seems to have a frequency somewhat higher than the nominal one and this makes its performance proportionally superior to the official i7-11800H.
Comparison of three SBCs
In this entry they have made a comparison between the Raspberry Pi 5, the Orange Pi 5 Plus and the Rock 5 Model B.
qBittorrent 4.6 available
qBittorrent 4.6.0 comes with a long list of changes of which experimental support for I2P stands out.
