Re: [[Ayuda] AMD FX 6100 + ASRock N68-VS3 FX

Hello, I bought an FX 6100 with 6 cores and I need a new motherboard, the only stock available is the N68-VS3 FX and in its specifications it says that it only supports up to the FX 4320, with the BIOS version 1.70, if I update it to BIOS 1.80 will it work for me? how did you manage to get the FX 6100 to work on that motherboard?

@DrSex Bios 1.80 is simply an improvement in compatibility with Windows 8. But that board will not have support for the FX 6xxx-8xxx-9xxx
I recommend you look in the second-hand market, even on Aliexpress (You will almost have better alternatives) for a board compatible with that FX 6100.

Best regards and Happy New Year.

Buff! Let's see, in theory (and this should be put in very big quotes), the AM3+ motherboards that support Bulldozer technology should be compatible with all CPUs with that technology even if the motherboard does not support it according to its specifications. And the in theory is because something I read a long time ago, not because I have experienced it so I could be wrong.

But seeing the motherboard and knowing the FX I can tell you that it's not a good idea. In the event that you installed it (and it worked), the VRM power lines seem insufficient and would overheat too much. These are CPUs that came unlocked and can be set to gigahertz as you want, as long as you can cool it and the motherboard can power it. And that is the first handicap, no overclocking. Moreover, ECO profiles with quite a bit of undervolting. Even so, I would install a heatsink on the mosfets, I repeat, in case it worked because I don't have all my marbles with me.

Second issue, most likely the chipset would also heat up quite a bit and I don't know if that little passive heatsink it comes with would be enough, it's something I would also take into account.

In short, I do not advise you to get it for a 6xxx at all but if you do, get ready to spend a warm winter... XD

@pos_yo hello, sorry I just answered now, well, there are thousands of am3+ motherboards that support fx, in fact that socket was designed for fx. but.... the chipset that comes with the one you mentioned is.... terrible and the data bus, HT doesn't even reach 800mhz, and fx, if I remember correctly, was at 2ghz. that's why it doesn't work. you have a bottleneck of scandalous size. look for a 990x or 990fx which are the ones with the highest data bus since the 970 980 and others are given a small oc to go up to 2ghz.
and always look for amd chipsets for those processors. they are the best that go with them.
but fx are not 6 core. they are 3 core and 6 thread.... the fx issue was a scandal. for me, the best of that era are the 1100t or that series of phenomn II x6 those are real 6 core. and with some improvements and tweaks, they can compete with more than one i7 of that era.
