Secondary Display Port monitor
-
Hello, friends!!!
Maybe you can help me...I don't know what's wrong!!!
I have a Vaio laptop, which is quite old, and I wanted to make the most of its 16" screen,
I removed it from the laptop and bought a controller on Amazon for the LP171WP4 model of the screen. I also bought a DisplayPort to HDMI cable, since the graphics card I have is an AMD RX580, which has an HDMI input, 3 DisplayPorts, and another DVI. I already have HDMI and DVI occupied with two monitors.
So I connected everything, Windows detects the monitor but says “No signal”, the screen turns on, it says “HDMI” and then “No signal”.
I don't know if I need a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter or if the cable I bought is already enough.
I'll show you the cable…
Maybe you can help me!!!“DisplayPort to HDMI Cable 1.8 m, DP to HDMI Adapter Cable 4K, Unidirectional Cable DP 1.2 to HDMI 1.4 Compatible with Monitor TV Projector Laptop Dell HP and More

Hello @darko!
It will be very obvious but, did you try connecting it directly via HDMI? That is, temporarily freeing up an HDMI from your RX580 and using a tested HDMI cable to see if it receives a signal.
If you did, the fault is probably in the cable. Incidentally, many people say in the comments that it doesn't work for them either. "No signal" precisely.
I assume you will have checked all the multiple display settings.
Best regards!

Hello Syler
thanks for your interest...
I hadn't thought about connecting everything via HDMI, to see if it works.
This afternoon after work...I'll check and let you knowthanks!!!

hello!!!
I have done several tests...
I connected the controller to the graphics via HDMI, I turn it on, I see the BIOS startup image, then the grub menu and finally the Windows startup and the screen turns black, I can't see the user and pass.
I have looked at multiple screen configurations, I select the screen, I see a correct screen configuration...60 Hz and if I remember correctly 1920x1080...I'm not sure
, this on the screen connected by DVI.
If I connect it by DisplayPort, it detects 59 Hz and a resolution of 640x480, only that resolution comes out and the screen is black.
I have done the same on a laptop with Linux via HDMI and everything is perfect here, I see the desktop, etc...
There I am stuck... -
Hello @darko!
Well, if it works on the laptop with Linux but not with the RX580, it sounds to me like a driver issue... Or a resolution issue.
From what you're saying, it apparently looks good when the graphics card uses the basic mode to display the BIOS and boot menu. But when it gets to the system where the "full" driver comes into play, it goes black.
This also happened with the resolution, with monitors that didn't support a specific resolution and when you set it in the configuration, they didn't show any signal (that's why the system always put a countdown to automatically revert the changes, in case you didn't see anything). If my theory is correct, I would bet that if you choose to boot in safe mode (fail-safe), the desktop would be displayed.
And if you try changing the resolution to 1440x900, which is supposed to be the native resolution of that screen, it might work directly as well.Try it and let us know.
Best regards!

Hello Sylver...I'll tell you about the tests I've done...
I connected the LP171WP4 screen via HDMI, I entered the failsafe mode, it looks great at a resolution of 1024x768, I go to the option to change resolution in advanced options, but it only shows the mentioned resolution, there are no others...
I restarted, I got to the desktop, the desktop is visible, but it looks terrible, like pixelated, I can see the icons, etc...but it's terrible, I set a resolution of 1600x1200...up the screen is black and down it's pixelated-blurry.
I know I'm close...but
I don't know if it has anything to do with it, I don't know if I touched something in the BIOS a while ago...it didn't happen to me before, but when I start the PC, the screen looks blurry and pixelated-blurry until I enter my user and password, from there it's perfect. If I turn on the PC, press the key to enter the BIOS, it shows the BIOS options and menus perfectly, I exit without saving changes, it restarts and everything looks perfect, but if I turn it off and turn it on again, the same thing happens...
My motherboard is a gigabyte A520M H
Thanks!!! -
Hello @darko
As I suspected, the problem is the resolution. That laptop screen doesn't support 1920x1080.
In fact, it only supports a few resolutions and image modes.
Its maximum resolution is 1440x900 according to the manufacturer. And that resolution I think isn't available in the AMD software, perhaps only in custom resolution (if you have that option). So I think on your desktop PC you can only use it in 1024x768.
The thing about it being pixelated/blurry when you turn on the PC I don't know what it could be. It could be anything from artifacts due to physical damage to the graphics, to some kind of BIOS configuration problem.
You can try resetting it just in case.Best regards!

Hello Sylver!!!
SOLVED!!!
Between your help and research I have managed it...I'll explain:
I have connected the main screen via DisplayPort (the one I use on my PC)...everything correct, so I have ruled out DisplayPort cable error.
I have connected the laptop screen via HDMI to my RX580, with the resolution 1440x900, as you told me, but it was still looking bad. In the end I have disconnected the screen and I have flown to install it back in the Vaio laptop, to see if the resolutions were correct.
Well I see this:
1440x900 59,939Hz 8 bits RGB SDR
I have reconnected the screen via HDI to my RX580 graphics card, I have opened the AMD Adrenalin application, but in configuration it did not see the screens, in the end I have restored the Adredalin application and the configuration of the three screens has appeared, I select the problematic one and I put resolution 1440x990, the 59,939 hz refresh rate and 8 bpc and "OLE" everything perfect...more happy than castanets!!!
I only have to tell you Sylver that thank you very much for your help and advice...you are a machine!!!
Salu2 and see you next time!!! -
Hello @darko!
I'm really glad you were able to fix it!
Indeed, the settings are special on laptop screens, that's why I expected that your PC's native resolution would be conflicting.
Lucky you were able to restore the Adrenalin from AMD and that it let you set up the extra screen exactly, because sometimes it's a bit of a problematic application.A pleasure to be able to help you, see you around!
Best regards!
