Dell puts a special GPU connector
Dell has started using a 12V-2x6 connector for graphics cards in its desktop PCs that comes with an improved retention mechanism. The idea is that the connector cannot come off accidentally and although it has not been said why they want additional security, it looks like Dell, with the precedents that have been, does not have much confidence in this power standard.
Panasonic leaves the TV business
The former king of plasma panels has abandoned the manufacture of television sets. Panasonic has decided to cede the brand image to the Chinese Skyworth, which will exploit it both at the manufacturing level and at the marketing level.
Project Silica continues to advance
Project Silica is a development by Microsoft that seeks to be able to store information for tens of thousands of years. At the moment its technology is capable of storing 2TB on a 120mm² glass surface. The writing rate is 18.5 Mbps and they have managed to lower the quality of the glass needed.
AMD and Meta partner
The circular economy of AI continues to strengthen. Meta and AMD have agreed that the latter will supply it with 60 billion in hardware in the next 5 years. In return, Meta will be able to acquire 10% of the semiconductor manufacturer, a deal that AMD already reached with OpenAI last year.
Installing Linux without USB
ulli is a tool that allows you to make the boot sector of the hard drive point to a Linux installer with options for Linux Mint 22.3, K/Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS, Debian Live 13.3.0, and Fedora 43. With this, it is possible to install these distributions from Windows or Linux without the need to use a USB drive.
