Windows XP remote desktop does not work
-
Hello, I have two PCs in my house with Windows XP SP3, I connect to one of them through remote desktop since it doesn't have a monitor, keyboard, or mouse.
Well today when I tried to connect, I can't access this PC through Windows remote desktop.
It's enabled on both computers, with its user and password, the Windows firewall is disabled but I can't connect.
When I start the Windows remote desktop application, I put the IP and the username but nothing, I recently reinstalled that PC but I remember having connected through remote desktop without problems.Any ideas why it's not working?

Have you put a monitor on it to see that the PC is booting up properly, it's not hanging, etc.? You say you put the IP and the username, I understand that the remote desktop is loading for you because otherwise you wouldn't be asked for a username, you would get an error when you click connect with the IP, right? I think as I have said before, you should first check physically (by connecting a keyboard and monitor) if the machine has any problems. -

You say you put the IP and the username, I understand that the remote desktop is reaching you already because otherwise you wouldn't ask for a username, you would get an error when you click connect with the IP, right? I think that as I have already said, you should first check physically (by connecting a keyboard and monitor) if the machine has any problems.
Well after fighting with it for a while I decided to format and reinstall and what a surprise, I start installing the drivers and when I put the video one (Nvidia FX 5500) that's when the Windows remote desktop stops working, I uninstall it and it works again without problems.
What does the Nvidia FX 5500 driver package install??Regards and thanks

What date is the driver you are installing from? I see this over there:

Remote desktop is ONCE AGAIN broken in this release, OMG, when is nvidia going to fix that for good? And why is MS WHQLing drivers that broke basic OS functionality? So much for their quality testing, I suppose WHQL is just a way to control the market and, of course, profit from one more thing…
It seems that there were problems with remote desktop and Nvidia drivers in their day, but that was 2 and a half years ago.
And also:
@http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_FX_Series:Note that the 175.19 driver is known to break Windows Remote Desktop (RDP).[19] The last version before the problem is 174.74. It was apparently fixed in 177.83, although this version is not available for the GeForce 5 graphic cards.
And I see that the driver proposed by the Nvidia website is the 175.16 WHQL, so I'm not sure if you will be able to fix it … (without having to go without a driver).

Damn, that's great! and if I install drivers like the omega ones can it work?
Although it says that up to version 174.74 (if my English is correct) it does work, it would be to look for older drivers.Regards

It's already fixed, I've installed the Omega drivers from Nvdia v2.169.21 and it works correctly.
