Another newbie asking for an audit ;) (E8400)
-
Hello,
I have an E8400, Asus P5k motherboard, 4gb DDR2800mhz GEIL 5-5-5-15, an 8800GT and a 500w power supply.
Actually, it's probably time for a complete PC upgrade, but since I'm not sure if it's worth waiting for the new Intel micros, if they change the socket or what, I thought about giving mine a small boost in the form of an overclock.
I've seen guides and stuff, but I'm not very clear about certain things, so I went for the easy way, trying to find someone who did OC on a CPU+motherboard like mine.
I found a person who ran it stably at 3.8ghz and 4.3ghz. I decided to try with 3.8ghz. I'll give you the notable data, the rest of the devices were on Auto.
CPU Ratio: 09.0
FSB Strap to NB: 400mhz
FSB Frequency: 420
DRAM Command Rate: 2N
CPU Voltage 1.3500V
DRAM Voltage 2.20V
NB Voltage 1.40V
SB Voltage 1.05VLoad Line calibration: Enabled
CPU Spread Spectrum: disabled
PCIE Spread Spectrum: disabledAfter doing this, the computer restarts when I've been in Windows for a few minutes. I get a blue screen and it restarts. I don't think it's a cooling issue since I have a katana 3 fan for the CPU.
Could it be the memory? Is the power supply insufficient? The latter would surprise me, no? I don't think the consumption is that big with those modifications as to not be able to handle that power supply.
I don't have the possibility right now to take screenshots of CPUZ because I'm in the office, but I'll tell you that finally I returned all the parameters to default and the computer works again, but CPUZ tells me that the memory is at 400mhz... Could it be a dual channel issue or is it that the memory or its configuration in the BIOS is wrong??
Thank you very much
