      Information rescued from http://vr-zone.com/articles/mid-rang…d/14380-3.html

      I summarize a bit:

      1. Tested at 1.40v checking the voltage applied, they look for 3.5Ghz and measure the chipset temperature (on the heatsink) and CPU, and the voltages and Mhz during the test.

The result is that the ones with the most stable OC are Gigabyte and Asus, but all reach high temperatures in the chipset +80º. Asrock being the hottest and Gigabyte the least…of those that allow some OC, because MSI and ECS can't even reach 3.5Ghz.

The truth is that although it is not the most scientific method and we miss several details of configs used etc…there is something that does not quite add up in this platform. It seems that Gigabyte has already solved the issue that started this thread, but the rest also don't seem to be doing too well (personal opinion of an inexperienced person)

Photos of the boards during the tests...pay attention to the thermometer, and the graphic with white PCB

ASUS P9X79 (stable at voltages, 85.1º in chipset, warm)

GIGABYTE X79-UD3 (drops to 1.392 but stable, 83.9º in chipset…less hot, not cool)

ASROCK X79 EXTREME4 (stable at 1.4v, but OC drops to 3.2 under stress. Chipset at 89.9º!!)

MSI X79A-GD45 (doesn't go up to 3.5 or back, chipset stays at 65.2º)

ECS X79R-AX (same as MSI but with chipset at 54.3º)

By the way, they are already getting important results with BIOS F8d (user Massman) on an X79-UD7 in this case:
