Bottleneck or scarce source?
-
Hello, I already wrote in the previous post about the acquisition of the GTX 570 SO. To be honest, it works well for me but I wanted to investigate if it works as it should.
First of all, I have the Epu engine software and I have tried changing modes from Performance, Turbo, and medium power saving.
The issue is that I ran Unigine Heaven and I was shocked to see the score was so low. I tried different modes and compared with other people. It gives me a very low score.
With everything at maximum x4 x16 teselation extreme I only got 686 (medium power saving mode, where the clock is lower)
I did the same in performance mode (at standard clock) 640
Turbo (+15%) 520 points.
It seems that as the CPU has more Mhz, the performance decreases.
I should also mention that on the Gigabyte website they ask for a minimum 650W power supply.
Mine is 650W with a peak of 700W.
I don't know if it's because of the power supply or the micro or if I'm worrying for nothing, because so far the games I've tried... excellent.
Any ideas?? or any more tests to perform? -
You are drowning in a glass of water.
You have already checked that it performs perfectly in games and without lag, you have nothing more to check I think, the tests and benchs are only good for competing on paper but for practical purposes they are worth nothing.
The important thing is that it demonstrates effectiveness and you have already checked that.Greetings

Thanks Noi, yesterday I was just warming up until 4, I downloaded Fraps, put on BF3 and watched them come.
I don't know if I should give more or not... But the truth is that it goes from 45-100 fps depending on if I'm indoors or outdoors. I think I'm going to skip the scores as you say.
Anyway, it would be interesting to know how much the PC consumes at the wall outlet. -
The most reliable way to see how much power the PSU is actually drawing from the wall outlet is to use a UPS that measures this value.
Best regards
-
Or a power meter, which is a device that connects to the outlet and the computer to the device and shows you what it consumes at each moment.
Best regards. -
Well, for now, I'll try it with a professional tester.
Let's see how many amps it gives me at the outlet. I'm assuming that if it's around 650-700W, it might be just right, right? -
I assume that if I'm around 650-700W it's that it can be tight, right?
No, it doesn't have to be tight, it should be enough.

A coworker bought an i5 2500k and a GTX570 and the power supply is 650W (Coolemaster, I think) and no problem.Enjoy your equipment

I also looked it up via web and it asked for 680w, recommended 700W
On which page did you look it up? Because to optimize I don't have CDs or floppy drives. Just motherboard+graphics card+HDD+4Fans including the CPU one. I have nothing else connected to the power supply.
Moreover, I use the two 12V22A of the graphics card, plus a SATA power cable and the one for the motherboard. So roughly, 1222 are 264W. For two outputs 528W. Seen like that, it sounds heavy that a single graphics card consumes more than 500W. But if that's the case… 150W for the rest... could that be fair?
On the other hand, what does CoNyo mean by 700W peak power? Peak power? I don't understand. Does it always work at 650w and at certain points it can have overvoltage? or what does it mean? -
don't worry about the source, you have more than enough so it won't give you problems for lack of power
-
After testing it for several days. I insist the graphics are great.
The only thing is that in Batman there are occasional drops. Minimum 17 max 65 fps
On the other hand, I'm confused about this overclocking thing. I've tried overclocking the graphics a bit and it generally gives me a drop in fps, just like if I overclock the CPU, the fps also drop.
Why is this happening? It should be the other way around. -
uff well if when overclocking you are sure that the performance decreases it may be due to a lack of power supply. run some benchmarks with and without overclocking to make sure that the fps decrease with overclocking, and if so you would have to look into what problem there is with your power supply.
-
Well, 3dmark11 won't let me install it. It gives me some error of the installer in the version of my OS.
Tomorrow I'll do 3 passes without oc, oc micro, oc graphics.
But with Fraps, I have seen that if I increase the CPU by 10%, it goes down by about 10-15fps. And today I did the same with Batman but doing it with the graphics and the same thing. From 45-60 (without physics) it goes down to 30. Even down to 7 fps.
If I have to change the source... I'll have shot myself in the foot. -
Unless your source is damaged for some reason it shouldn't be the problem, I'm starting to suspect that this is a bottleneck caused by something specific...EDIT: It's unlikely to be the processor, we're talking about an i7 920, it's not the graphics either, the source a priori either... and the RAM, unless you have a problem with it when you apply the OC it shouldn't be the cause either...

The power supply may be faulty or not. But that would be bad luck, honestly, because for a GTX570 you don't need a power supply of more than 550-650W depending on the model of GTX570 (that is, the versions with OC ask for a bit more juice).
However, it's not that the Tacens 700W is a bad choice, but of the few that I have used/installed at work they don't give problems. I mean, it's not the same as the typical "salchichera nisu" brand, but obviously it's not like Corsair or OCZ, etc.Anyway, first you should check that it's not something software-related. What Operating System do you use?
Check that it's up to date, using the latest Nvidia drivers, etc. Check that the Antivirus isn't causing problems and slowing down the system, or that you have a virus.
Even check if the game you're testing needs any patches.I speak from my own experience, and it's that a while ago I had a Trojan like a house, and of course I didn't know it, but when playing NFS it was going terribly, and I looked that the GPU usage (HD6950) only reached 50%, and nothing.
The thing is that game always worked well for me, that's why I was annoyed. In the end I crashed the OS and had to reinstall, and that's when it worked correctly. So, first rule out software issues, ok?

Yes, I think those results are a bit low. But I don't think the source has anything to do with it, come on… I still think the issue is the software.
Did you try everything I mentioned in my previous post?

Well, the drivers are the 285.62.
I've run it through avast, and another with spybot. Nothing.
I had to reinstall the OS two weeks ago because BF3 wouldn't run due to the ram issue. And I switched to 64 bits.
I don't know what the hell is going on, but the highest score I got was without overclocking. And as for fps, it varies by 5-7 fps.
I'll try cleaning the registry to see if there's anything left from the 460
