Z77 Extreme 4 - CPU temperature through the roof
-
Hello guys, I have had this new motherboard since this weekend with a 3570K and until today I am very happy with both. The thing is that I had not realized it until now but when I repositioned the cables to change the power supply soon I touched the southbridge heatsink, the Z77 itself, and it is burning that it burns... ¬¬ I put Aida64 which is the only one that shows me the temperature of the PCH and it marked 68º!!!, I quickly put a fan blowing on it until I got it down to 48º... all this in Idle.... :wall: I have been very careful when assembling the equipment, I have been doing this for + of 20 years, so I am surprised that I did something wrong. I have not touched anything to do OC or anything, just mounting the RL for the CPU and the HD and that's it.
The voltage of the PCH is 1,06 V and for other similar images it is what it is, neither more nor less...Have I got a damaged motherboard?? because we are definitely sure that this is not normal... luckily on Amazon I think they are competent in returns but I hate the hassle of dismantling and assembling again...

I leave you an image of Aida but I already see myself sending it back... :wall:

I am the same. You shouldn't worry so much, although it's not the coolest PCH, the maximum temperature specified by Intel is 100º.
In my computer, it is noticeable that the fans are blowing. It is cooler at full load of everything (CPU and GPU) with fans at full blast than at rest ventilation and hard. I haven't needed to put a dedicated one on it either.

Hello Obione, you make me feel more at ease :fumeta:
The thing is, I was just testing the regulation of the 3 fans that maintain airflow inside the case at that moment, they were all at a minimum when I noticed the heat, and since I was messing around, I grabbed a loose fan that I had handy and pointed it directly at the Z77.
I have already tested with the case closed, fans at 20% and without that direct fan, and with an ambient temperature of 26º, it stays at, the motherboard at 31º, the PCH at 43º, and the CPU at 29º-30º at idle.
After 30 minutes of testing in Aida64, they rise to 33º Motherboard, 54º PCH, and 40º CPU.
Seeing that the PCH doesn't rise as much as yesterday, I just put a quick OC in the Bios @4200 and it stays like that, 35º Motherboard, 57º PCH, and 44º CPU.
I then think that I have plenty of margin since the OC is not going to be constant at all and seeing the difference in temperatures of the PCH from stock speed to a moderate OC and with that data that it can withstand up to 100º, I can sleep peacefully.
The craziest thing is that Aida64 doesn't initially show me the PCH sensor and suddenly it appears, sometimes it never even appears and I have to restart the application for it to work after a while

At first, I thought I could put a Maze4 block on that PCH, but it doesn't fit without some DIY, so we'll see what I do if things get crazy in the summer..
Thank you very much for everything, I'll be around here for a while to get everything fine with your help

Regards
