Hello, I'm new to the forum, although I've been reading for a few days and I wanted to ask you a question...

Finally, after these holidays, I decided to put a HTPC connected to the TV for the little one in the house :casanova: but for now, I would like a graphics card to be able to face these holidays with some grace to my old E6600...

I thought about this Gigabyte GeForce GTX 650 Ti OC 2GB. In the future, it will be accompanied by an i3 2120/3225 (?), put in a mini itx with wifi and in a case a Lian Li q011 Lian Li PC-Q11 Mini-ITX Review | techPowerUP

      Here are the doubts:

-Would you get another graphics card? I'm looking for minimal temperatures and noise, and I've never done overclocking, so as I get it, it will stay... Although with so much reading, one ends up wanting to try. I have a preference for Gigabyte, the one I have (7950 GT) has been with me since 2007 giving it my all and it's still there...

-Do you think that a generic 600w with 16A on the 12v rail would be enough for me?

      Greetings and thanks in advance!

I just bought a second-hand Asus, this one in particular: http://www.asus.es/Barebone_PC/S_Series_7L/S1AT5NM10E/

With this HTPC I play MKV for free, as long as I use a video program that makes use of the ION 2 graphics it has.

With this I want to tell you that to build an HTPC to watch MKV files you don't need a big deal. If you want games... well, that's another story. The E6600 still seems to me a competent micro for office work and some sporadic gaming. I've had an E2180 for almost 2 years because for what they give me second-hand... I don't even sell it, but it still seems to me a very decent micro.

I see people building an HTPC with an I3 or more powerful micros and if it's not for gaming I think it's a waste. For consumption an ATOM or the equivalent in AMD seem to me the most appropriate for an HTPC for movies, office work and little more.

If you tell us what you want the HTPC for, better, for gaming things change.

Regarding your question: Do you think that with a generic 600w with 16A in the 12v rail would serve me?

Answer: Don't be cheap and if you're going to put a mid-range graphics card... get a decent power supply. Something good, beautiful and cheap is this: http://www.pccomponentes.com/corsair_cx500_v2_500w_builder_series_80_plus_bronze_oem.html

And if you stretch a little more... http://www.pccomponentes.com/antec_vp550p_basiq_550w.html

Well, the generic power supply is because I won't buy it now, after Christmas I expect some payments and I'll get the HTPC, which will have a new power supply, I think I saw a Be Quiet Pure Power L8 CM 530W Modular that I think would go better with it... and the graphics card.

At first, I want it for movies, series and whatever comes up, but it's clear that until I renew my tower I'll use it to play... even to move Solidworks better than my poor C2D...

That's why I prefer to go a bit over it, I bought this E6600 in its day and it still keeps going, if I had bought a Celeron it would have gone out the window...

So do you think it's a good choice? For power supply power, it should hold up well, right?

Regards and thanks for the answers.

My HTPC is governed by an E6600 and an HD4850 and it works great. It won't let you down, I have it set up with 2GB DDR2, a 500GB drive and Win7 HP x64, and it runs everything, even some decent games (Most Wanted 2012 for example).

Thank you very much for the answers. I will soon create a post in another section to talk about the HTPC in particular, because the truth is that I am somewhat busy with its composition...
