Possible connections between TV and studio monitors
-
Hello friends, a friend asked for my opinion on monitors for watching movies mostly.
His TV has an optical output and headphone output (3.5mm jack).
A while ago I asked here about monitors, and I remembered the names of several models:
Behringer MS40 for use with optical connection

or
ESI Near05 but I don't know which would be the best way to connect it.

The ESI have TRS input (6.5mm jack) and XLR. Since the TV only has an optical and headphone output, I'm not sure if there would be a loss of quality, although with quality cables it shouldn't happen.
I prefer the ESI Near 05, they are more aesthetically appealing and have a 5" driver.
But I have a couple of doubts, in the MS40 only one monitor has the audio input, but the ESI have their own connection, what type of connection should I do? Two 6.5mm jacks to one 3.5mm for the TV? Would it be better to use the XLR outputs?
Best regards and I look forward to your responses.
EDIT: I've read about balanced and unbalanced inputs, but I'm not sure what it means. Is it supposed that XLR is balanced but jack is not? Is the only benefit of a balanced signal that it allows longer cable runs?

ESI + jacks best option.

That's a good one, it allows you to separate a stretch of the big jacks. Being for TV I suppose you won't need more than 1.5m.

Thanks for the help
